2014-15 Rhode Island College Women’s Swimming
Season Summary
(1-5 Overall; Sixth Place at the Little East Championships)

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Ron Sutherland’s team finished the 2014-15 season with a 1-5 overall record. The Anchorwomen’s lone victory of the season came in the team’s home opener with a 126-82 win over the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 26.

 

RIC placed sixth (seven teams) with a score of 89.0 at the 2014 Little East Conference Championships on Dec. 6. The team finished 16th (20 teams) with a score of 105.0 at the 2015 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship on Feb. 13-14.

 

 

 

Junior Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) placed second in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.77) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.21) against Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 30. She placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.36), 100-yard freestyle (1:01.24) and the 200-yard IM (2:30.76) against Western Connecticut on Jan. 25. McCutcheon captured first place in both the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.02) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.89) against Husson on Jan. 17. She finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:56.02) and second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.51) vs. Plymouth State on Jan. 10.

 

McCutcheon placed eighth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.34) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.37) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 6. She took first place in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:13.35) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:58.44) in a victory over the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 26. McCutcheon opened the season by placing sixth in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.98) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.96) at the Blue Jay Pentathlon on Oct. 18.

 

Sophomore Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.52) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (29.56) against Eastern Connecticut State on Jan. 30. She placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.65), the 50-yard freestyle (30.77) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:45.81) against Western Connecticut on Jan. 25. Soria finished second in both the 50-yard backstroke (34.62) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.14) against Husson on Jan. 17.

 

She finished fourth in the 50-yard backstroke (35.25), 50-yard freestyle (30.60) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.53) against Plymouth State on Jan. 10. Soria finished 14th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:39.17) and 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.65) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 6. She finished 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.42), 16th in the 50-yard backstroke (34.48) and 21st in the 50-yard freestyle (29.71) at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 8. Soria placed second in both the 50-yard backstroke (34.44) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.70) against Western New England on Oct. 31.

 

Soria placed first in both the 50-yard backstroke (34.41) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.66) against the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 26. She placed 11th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.99) and 19th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:09.30) at the Blue Jay Pentathlon on Oct. 18.

 

Freshman Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the 100-yard IM (1:07.10) and a seventh place effort in the 50-yard breaststroke (33:06), while also placing 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.53), at the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 13-14,. She placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.56) and second in the 100-yard IM (1:08.10) against Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 30. Curran placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.97), 200-yard breaststroke (2:50.84) and 50-yard butterfly (30.68) against Western Connecticut on Jan. 25.

 

She placed first in the 100-yard IM (1:09.96) and second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.69) against Husson on Jan. 17. Curran placed first in the 50-yard backstroke (34.47), 50-yard freestyle (27.71) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.02) against Plymouth State on Jan. 10. She placed fifth in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.27) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:47.34) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 6. Curran placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.86), third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.83), fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.52) and 11th in the 100-yard IM (1:11.56) at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 8.

 

She placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.69) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.62), while placing second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.52), against Western New England on Oct. 31. Curran placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke (34.97), 50-yard freestyle (27.72) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.72) against the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 26. She finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.01), fifth in the 100-yard IM (1:14.23) and 12th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.79) at the Blue Jay Pentathlon on Oct. 18.

 

Curran was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and Little East Conference Rookie Swimmer of the Week once on the season.

 

Freshman Samantha Roberts (Willington, CT) placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:29.57) and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (33.72) against Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 30. She placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (3:09.49) against Western Connecticut on Jan. 25. Roberts placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:42.67) and second in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (15:15.75) and the 50-yard breaststroke (47.68) vs. Husson on Jan. 17. She finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:44.75), fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:17.02) and fifth in the 50-yard backstroke (43.01) against Plymouth State on Jan. 10.

 

Roberts placed 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:41.79), 31st in the 100-yard freestyle (1:17.09) and 33rd in the 50-yard freestyle (35.50) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 6. She placed 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:45.43), 23rd in the 50-yard breaststroke (48.42), 27th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:18.74) and 38th in the 50-yard freestyle (35.86) at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 8. Roberts finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:20.12) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (35.60) against Western New England on Oct. 31.

 

She placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (36.22), fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke (49.81) and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:48.25) against the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 26. Roberts placed 19th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:44.84) and 22nd in the 100-yard freestyle (1:20.12) at the Blue Jay Pentathlon on Oct. 18.

 

Freshman Taylor Ryan (Warwick, RI) placed 14th in the 100-yard freestyle (59.46) and 28th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.53) at the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 13-14. She finished first in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.50) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.83) against Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 30. Ryan finished first in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.47) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.63), while also taking second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.12), against Western Connecticut on Jan. 25. She placed first in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.53) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.52) against Husson on Jan. 17.

 

Ryan placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.87), 50-yard butterfly (30.56) and the 200-yard IM (2:32.61) against Plymouth State on Jan. 10. She placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.30) and 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.61) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 6. Ryan finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.41), third in both the 50-yard butterfly (30.29) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.40), while also finishing seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.57), at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 8.

 

She placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.74) and the 50-yard butterfly (29.92) against Western New England on Oct. 31. Ryan finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.50), 100-yard freestyle (1:02.18) and the 50-yard butterfly (30.72) against the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 26. She placed second in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.61) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.95), while also placing 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.98), at the Blue Jay Pentathlon on Oct. 18.
