2014-15 Rhode Island College
Women’s Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team wrapped up the 2014-15 campaign by sending two student-athletes to the 2015 NCAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. on March 14-15. RIC did not score as a team at the event.

 

The Anchorwomen finished in a tie for 35th (38 teams) with a score of 1.0 at the N.E. Open Championships on March 27-28. RIC finished 10th (30 teams) with a score of 34.0 at the New England Div. III Championships on Feb. 20-21.

 

The Anchorwomen finished fourth (10 teams) in the Alliance with a score of 90.0 and third (six teams) in the Little East with a score of 92.0 at the New England Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.

 

 

 

Senior Daria Braboy (Providence, RI) placed 15th in the 400m (59.86) at the NCAA National Championships on March 13-14. She finished second in the triple jump (11.23m) at the Tufts Last Chance Invitational on Mar. 6. Braboy took 14th place in the triple jump (11.11m) and 15th place in the 400m (57.69) at the N.E. Open Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28. She took home All-New England honors with a second place finish in the 400m (58.51) and a fifth place finish in the triple jump (11.48m), a new school record, at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 21. Braboy earned N.E. Alliance honors in five events at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. She was the N.E. Alliance champion in the triple jump (11.15m), while also finishing first as part of the 4x400m relay (4:09.16). She finished second in the 400m (58.67), fourth in the 200m (26.41) and fifth in the 60m (8.20). Braboy placed 62nd in the 200m (26.39; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7.  Braboy placed 23rd in the 400m (57.34; season-best), 14th in the triple jump (11.17m) and 43rd in the 60m (8.14; season-best) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 30.

 

She finished first in both the triple jump (11.14m) and the 600m (1:44.34) and third in the 60m (8.14) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Braboy finished first in the 600m (1:45.61), long jump (5.07m; season-best) and triple jump (10.82m), posted a second place effort in both the 55m (7.70; season-best) and the 200m (27.27) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. She finished 11th in the 200m (26.46), eighth in the triple jump (11.01m) and 21st in the 60m (8.18) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Braboy finished third in the triple jump (11.07m) and seventh in the 400m (59.43) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. She finished second in the triple jump (10.53m), third in the 600m (1:44.17; season-best) and sixth in the 60m (8.34) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

As a junior in 2013-14, Braboy placed second in both the 400m (59.48) and the triple jump (11.17m; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 6. She took 15th in the triple jump (10.98m) and 20th in the 400m preliminaries (58.78) at the N.E. Open Championships on March 1. Braboy earned All-New England honors with a seventh-place finish in the 400m (59.68) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 21-22. She earned N.E. Alliance honors with a second place finish in the triple jump (10.83m) and a fourth place finish in the 600m with a program-record time of 1:39.55, while finishing 10th in the 200m (27.13) and 12th in the long jump (4.75m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 15. Braboy was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish (4:13.32).

 

She finished 16th in the triple jump (11.17m; season-best) and 69th in the 200m (26.12; season-best) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 7. Braboy finished second in the triple jump (10.48m), third in the 600m (1:41.52) and 11th in the long jump (4.27m) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 1. She took 18th in the triple jump (10.79m) and finished 29th in the 400m (57.66; season-best) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 24. Braboy placed first in the 200m (27.42), second in the triple jump (10.57m) and fourth in the 55m (7.95) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 18. She took first place in the triple jump (10.91m), second in the long jump (5.03m; season-best), fourth in the 600m (1:45.86) and fifth in the 55m (7.90; season-best) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 11. Braboy placed fourth in the 400m (58.36) and fifth in the triple jump (11.04m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 14. She placed second in both the triple jump (10.32m) and the 600m (1:42.93), while also finishing third in the 60m (8.34m), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 7. Braboy was named the Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week twice on the season.

 

As a sophomore in 2012-13, Braboy was one of two individuals to qualify for the 2013 NCAA Div. III Championships on March 8-9 and finished 14th in the 400m with a time of 59.14. Meanwhile, Braboy was also a member of the 4x400 relay team that finished 10th overall at the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:54.86. She took first in the 400m (58.53) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 2 and was a member of the 4x400m relay team that broke the previous program record with a third place time of 3:53.01. Braboy finished 11th in the preliminaries of the 400m with a season-high time of 57.43 and 14th in the triple jump (11.13m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 23. She earned All-New England honors with fourth place finishes in both the triple jump (10.91m), the 400m (59.26) and as part of the 4x200m relay team which finished second (1:45.66), while also placing 11th in the 200m (26.78), 12th in the long jump (4.94m) and 17th in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.60) at the 2013 N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 16. Braboy earned N.E. Alliance honors in four events, as she placed first in the triple jump (10.78), second in the 400m (58.02), fifth in the long jump with a season-high mark of 5.10m and sixth in the 200m with a season-high time of 26.42 at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. She also finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.54) and helped lead the 4x200m relay team to a first place finish and a program-record time of 1:44.50.

 

Braboy placed third in the 400m (58.85), fourth in the long jump (4.98m), seventh in the triple jump (10.54m), seventh in the 200m (26.75) and 19th in the preliminaries of the 60m with a season-high time of 8.23 at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 2. She finished 18th in the triple jump (10.56m), 26th in the 400m (57.70) and 45th in the 60m (8.24) at the B.U. Terrier Invitational on Jan. 26. Braboy placed first in the triple jump with a season-high mark of 10.93m and second in the 400m (59.04) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 19. She placed first in the triple jump (10.61m), first in the long jump (4.68m), first in the 600m with a season-high time of 1:41.58 and second in the 55m (7.75) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 12. Braboy placed second in the triple jump (10.26m), third in the 200m (27.22) and sixth in both the long jump (4.72m) and the 55m (7.64) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 5. She finished sixth in the 400m (59.32), 20th in the 55m with a season-high time of (7.44) and also helped lead the 4x440m relay team to a sixth place finish and a program-record time of 4:08.40 at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8. Braboy placed first in the 600m (1:41.80), third in the triple jump (10.61m) and fifth in the 60m with a season-high time of 8.18 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1. She was named the Little East Conference Track Athlete of the Week once on the season.

 

As a freshman in 2011-12, Braboy was named the team MVP. She broke her own program record and earned All-ECAC honors with a season-best effort and fourth place finish in the 400m (57.36), while also finishing 21st in the triple jump (10.46m), at the ECAC Div. III Championships on March 3. She placed 11th in the 400m (57.75) and also placed 19th in the triple jump (10.75m) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. Braboy earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish in the 400m (58.65) at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. Aside from her stellar performance in the 400m, Braboy finished 11th in the 200m (26.67) and 13th in the triple jump (10.66m). She earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11, as she claimed the Alliance Championship in the 400m with a first place finish (58.87), placed second in the triple jump (10.91m) and a fourth place finish in the 200m (26.69). Braboy also placed ninth with a season-best performance in the long jump (4.93m) and finished ninth with a season-best effort in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.55).

 

Braboy finished 14th in the triple jump (10.79m), 17th in the 400m (58.37) and was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that broke the program record with a 16th place finish and a time of 4:05.77 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. She finished first with a season-best performance in the triple jump (10.85m), second in the 400m (59.63), and broke the program record with a season-best effort and a fourth place finish in the 60m (8.15) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Braboy earned first place in five different events, including the 55m (7.58), the 600m (1:42.60), the 200m (27.11), the long jump (4.70m) and the triple jump (10.79m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She finished second in the 200m (26.68), second in the triple jump (10.63m) and third in the 55m (7.60) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Braboy placed third in the 400m (59.00) and fourth in the triple jump (11.02m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She finished first with a season-best mark in the 600m (1:41.94) and second in the triple jump (10.66m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3. Braboy was named the Little East Conference Rookie Track Athlete of the Week twice on the year and was also named the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week once as well.

 

Braboy is a nursing major and a 2011 graduate of St. Mary’s-Bay View Academy.

 

Senior Julie Merlain (Providence, RI) placed 17th in the weight throw (11.01m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Merlain finished 25th in the weight throw (11.23m; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She finished seventh in the weight throw (10.47m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Merlain placed 12th in the weight throw (9.37m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. She placed 29th in the weight throw (9.19m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. She finished 22nd in the weight throw (9.09m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13.  Merlain finished 13th in the weight throw (9.60m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

As a freshman in 2011-12, she finished 23rd in the weight throw (6.63m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Merlain finished eighth with a season-best performance in the weight throw (7.18m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She finished 12th in the weight throw (5.81m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. She placed 16th in the weight throw (4.98m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Merlain is a psychology major and a 2011 graduate of The Met High School.

 

Junior Rebecca Tellier (Smithfield, RI) finished fifth in the 5,000m (20:16.37; season-best) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. She finished second in the 3,000m (11:36.38) and sixth in the 1,000m (3:31.50; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. She placed 29th in the 3,000m (11:49.71) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Tellier placed 18th in the 3,000m (11:25.18; season-best) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. She placed fourth in the 5,000m (20:27.62) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Junior Autumn Wosencroft (Newport, RI) finished 11th in the 400m (58.18) at the NCAA National Championships Mar. 13.  She placed eighth in the 400m (56.93; season-best) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27-28. Wosencroft captured All-New England honors by finishing first in the 400m (58.48) and second in the 200m (25.97), while also placed ninth in the long jump (5.14m), at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 20-21. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in five events by placing first in the 400m (58.31), 200m (26.05) and as part of the 4x400m relay (4:09.16), while finishing second in the long jump (5.34m) and sixth in the 60m (8.21), at the Alliance on Feb. 14.

 

Wosencroft placed 12th in the 400m (57.16) and 19th in the long jump (4.91m) at the Scarlet & White Invitational on Feb. 7. She finished 18th in the long jump (5.21m), 34th in the 200m (25.54; season-best) and 51st in the 60m (8.21) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 30. Wosencroft finished first in both the 60m (8.09) and the long jump (5.07m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. She placed first in the 55m (7.65; season-best), 200m (27.00) and 400m (1:02.54), while also placing second in the long jump (5.01m) and fourth in the triple jump (10.24m; season-best), at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Wosencroft placed ninth in the 200m (26.29), 11th in the 60m (8.05; season-best) and 13th in the long jump (4.88m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. She finished fifth in the long jump (5.36m; season-best) and sixth in the 200m (26.17) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Wosencroft finished first in the 200m (26.66), while finishing second in the 60m (8.11), long jump (5.04m) and the 4x200m (1:50.11) and 4x400m (4:14.77) relays, at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.  She was a two-time Little East Track Athlete of the week selection on the season. 

 

Sophomore Destinee Barrette (Warwick, RI) finished second in the weight throw (14.83m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. She finished 12th in the weight throw (15.09m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27-28. Barrette earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the weight throw (14.81m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 20-21. She garnered N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish in the weight throw (15.41; season-best), while also placing 10th in the shot (10.66m; season-best), at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Barrette placed ninth in the weight throw (14.97m) and 26th in the shot (9.48m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed first in the weight throw (15.41m; season-best) and fifth in the shot (9.68m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Abigail Dandurand (Hope Valley, RI) finished 21st in the 3,000m (12:06.16; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Dandurand placed 51st in the 800m (2:51.27) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed sixth in the 3,000m (12:23.31) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Dandurand finished sixth in the 3,000m (12:22.70) and ninth in the 1,000m (3:57.61) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Dandurand placed 46th in the 1,000m (3:45.85; season-best) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. She placed 13th in the 800m (2:49.17) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Dandurand finished 10th in the 1,000m (3:48.96; season-best) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Lauren Deguire (Blackstone, MA) placed seventh in the 1,000m (3:15.96; season-best) and 20th in the 3,000m (12:01.95) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Deguire finished 16th in the 3,000m (11:56.74; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed 50th in the 1,000m (3:17.46) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 30. Deguire finished seventh in the mile (5:51.78) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. She placed first in the mile (5:46.77; season-best) and fourth in the 800m (2:38.67; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Deguire placed 34th in the 1,000m (3:27.31) at the Yale Invitational Jan. 10.

 

Sophomore Allison Lomas (Saunderstown, RI) placed 11th as a member of the 4x400m (4:07.96) relay at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 20-21. Lomas earned N.E. Alliance honors as a member of the 4x400m relay (4:09.16) and placed seventh in the 800m (2:28.44) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Lomas finished 29th in the mile (5:44.16; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed 93rd in the 800m (2:27.56; season-best) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 30. Lomas placed fourth in the 800m (2:34.32) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. She finished second in the 800m (2:36.40) and fourth in the mile (5:53.31) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. She finished 37th in the mile (6:12.26) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Lomas finished fifth in the 800m (2:29.10) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. She placed third in the 800m (2:29.86) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Scarlet Santos (Cranston, RI) placed 25th in the 200m (31.42; season-best) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. She finished eighth in the 55m (8.77; season-best) and ninth in the 200m (32.61) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Santos placed 67th in the 200m (31:25; season-best) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10.

 

Sophomore Christina Sayavong (North Providence, RI) placed 15th in the weight throw (11.26m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Sayavong placed 27th in the weight throw (10.71m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed 19th in the weight throw (11.41m; season best) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Sayavong finished 20th in the weight throw (10.43m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. She placed ninth in the weight throw (10.16m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Sandra Semedo (Providence, RI) placed 20th in the weight throw (10.85m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Semedo finished 21st in the weight throw (11.78m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She placed fifth in the weight throw (12.24m; season-best) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Semedo finished seventh in the weight throw (11.25m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. She finished 21st in the weight throw (9.55m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13.

 

Sophomore Jessica Trautman (Narragansett, RI) placed 13th in the 600m (1:55.18; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Trautman finished 14th in the 500m (1:33.33; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. She finished 14th in the 600m (2:02.88) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Trautman finished fifth in the 600m (1:59.61), seventh in the 55m (8.56; season-best) and seventh in the 200m (30.78; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Trautman placed 31st in the 400m (1:13.04) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. She placed 10th in the 600m (1:57.92) and was a member of the second place 4x200m (1:51.63) relay team at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Alicia Holloway (Providence, RI), a two-time Little East Conference Rookie Track Athlete of the Week selection, was named the Little East Conference’s Women’s Rookie Track Athlete of the Year. She placed 14th in the 60m hurdles (9.56) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 20-21. Holloway earned N.E. Alliance honors as a member of the 4x400m relay (4:09.16), placed seventh in the high jump (1.47m; season-best), seventh in the 400m (1:01.67), eighth in the 200m (27.24) and broke the school record in the 60m hurdles (9.35; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.

 

Holloway finished 17th in the 60m hurdles (9.49) and 34th in the 400m (1:00.91; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7.  She placed 52nd in the 60m hurdles (9.61) and 105th in the 200m (27.09) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 30. Holloway placed first in the 60m hurdles (9.77), first in the high jump (1.47m) and second in the 400m (1:04.08) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. She placed second in the high jump (1.47m), second in the 55m hurdles (9.01; season-best), fourth in the 200m (29.30) and fourth in the 400m (1:07.62) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Holloway placed 12th in the 60m hurdles (9.51) and 22nd in the 200m (27.01; season-best) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. She placed second in the 60m hurdles (9.52), second in the 400m (1:04.37), as well as competing on the second place 4x200m (1:51.63) and 4x400m (4:17.08) relay teams, at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.
