2014-15 Rhode Island College
Menís Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Kevin Jacksonís team wrapped up the 2014-15 campaign by sending two athletes to the 2015 NCAA Menís Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. on March 14-15. RIC finished in a 24th-place tie (66 teams) with 8.0 points. 

 

The Anchormen finished 18th (32 teams) with a score of 15.0 at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27-28. RIC finished 14th (26 teams) with a score of 22.0 at the 2015 New England Div. III Championships on Feb. 20-21. The Anchormen took fifth place (10 teams) in the Alliance with a score of 75.0 and third place (six teams) in the Little East with a score of 114.0 at the 2015 New England Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.

 

 

 

Senior Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) wrapped up his indoor career with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.55) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. He finished eighth in the 60m hurdles (8.66) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 28. Forbes earned All-New England honors with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.43) and also finished 11th in the high jump (1.88m) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 21. He earned N.E. Alliance honors in four events at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He finished fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.50), seventh in the high jump (1.93m; season-best) and eighth in both the long jump (6.45m; season-best) and the 400m (52.41). Forbes finished 11th in the 60m hurdles (8.53), 12th in the 4x400m (3:25.64) and 25th in the 400m (50.28) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7.

 

He finished 28th in the 60m hurdles (8.64) and 56th in the 400m (50.03; season-best) at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30-31. Forbes placed first in the 60m hurdles (8.52), second in the 400m (52.11) and fourth in the high jump (1.87m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished second in the 55m hurdles (7.98; season-best), third in the long jump (6.23m) and 14th in the 200m (25.20) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Forbes placed sixth in the high jump (1.84m), seventh in the 60m hurdles (8.59) and 30th in the 200m (23.92; season-best) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. He placed seventh in the 60m hurdles (8.69) and 10th in the 400m (51.65) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Forbes finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.78m), third in the long jump (6.29m), seventh in the 400m (54.72) and ninth in the high jump (1.73m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

As a junior in 2013-14, Forbes was the Little East Champion and finished third overall in the 55m hurdles with a program-record time of 7.71 to earn N.E. Alliance honors at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 15. Forbes also posted an eighth-place finish in the high jump (1.93m season-best), an 11th-place finish in the 400m (52.27), a 13th-place finish in the long jump (6.02m), a 13th-place finish in the 55m preliminaries and a 26th-place finish in the 55m (7.00). He finished 67th in the 60m hurdles (9.40) and 79th in the 400m (50.62) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8. Forbes finished third in the 60m hurdles (8.52) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 1. He finished 14th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.43) and 52nd in the 400m (50.04; season-best) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 2.

 

Forbes placed third in the 55m hurdles (7.99), fifth in the 200m (24.14), seventh in the high jump (1.73m), ninth in the long jump (5.86m), 13th in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.06) and 14th in the shot (9.54m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 18. He finished second in both the 55m hurdles (7.72) and the 800m (2:08.39), while also placing third in the 55m (6.88; season-best), third in the long jump (6.25m; season-best) and fourth in the high jump (1.78m), at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 11. Forbes placed sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.71) and ninth in the 400m (51.36) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 14. He took first place in the 60m hurdles with a program-record time of 8.38 and also placed first in the 400m (52.12), while placing third in the 200m (23.73; season-best) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 7.

 

As a sophomore in 2012-13, Forbes was named the team MVP. He finished first in the 60m hurdles with a program-record time of 8.39 and took fifth in the 400m (50.85) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 2. Forbes finished 25th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.65) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 23. He earned All-New England honors in the heptathlon by placing fourth with a program-record score of 4499 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 16. Forbes also placed 13th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.70). He was the Little East Champion and earned N.E. Alliance honors thanks a second place effort in the 55m hurdles with a program-record time of 7.78 at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. Forbes earned N.E. Alliance honors by placing fourth in the 400m (51.09) and second as part of the 4x400m relay (3:26.61). He also placed 10th in the 200m (23.55), 12th in the high jump (1.73m) and 17th in the long jump (5.93m). He was also a member of the 4x200m relay team broke the previous program record with a fifth-place time of 1:33.90. He finished fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.63) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 2.

 

Forbes finished 21st in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.47) and also finished 32nd in the 400m with a season-best time of 49.66 at the B.U. Terrier Invitational on Jan. 26. Forbes placed first in the 60m hurdles (8.50) and fourth in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:25.45 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 19. He placed first in both the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.32m and the 200m (23.96), while also finishing second in the 55m hurdles (7.96), third in the 55m (7.00) and 13th in the shot with a season-high mark of 9.85m at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 12. Forbes placed first in the 55m hurdles (8.06), second in the high jump with a season-high mark of 1.83m, sixth in the 200m with a season-high time of 23.45 and 11th in the shot (8.73m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 5. He finished 21st in the high jump (1.80m), 25th in the preliminaries of the 55m hurdles (8.40) and 36th in the long jump (5.76) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8. He was also a member of the 4x440m relay team broke the previous program record with a second-place time of 3:25.30. Forbes finished seventh in the 1,000m with a season-high time of 2:51.54, ninth in the 60m (7.49) and 15th in the shot (9.38m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1.

 

As a freshman in 2011-12, he finished 26th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.89) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. Forbes finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.84) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. He earned a pair of N.E. Alliance Honors at the N.E. Alliance Championship on Feb. 11 as he took first place in the 55m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.08 and was part of the 4x400m relay team (3:27.96) that also finished third. Forbes also placed eighth in the 600m (1:26.31) and 10th in the high jump (1.81m). Forbes finished 43rd in the 60m hurdles (9.21) and 58th in the 400m with a season-best time of 51.43 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed third in the 60m hurdles (8.67), fourth in the 400m (51.83) and sixth in the high jump (1.81m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21.

 

Forbes earned a third place finish in the 400m (53.21) and helped establish a new program record in the 4x200m relay with a first-place finish (1:35.41) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He posted a season-best performance in the 600m with a fourth place finish (1:25.88) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Forbes posted a pair of season-bests at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10, finishing seventh in the high jump (1.90m) and 11th in the 60m hurdles (8.73) and was also part of the 4x440m relay squad that helped establish a new program record with a sixth place finish (3:30.32). He placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.85) and fourth in both the high jump (1.86m) and 400m (53.55) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Forbes is a justice studies major with a minor in coaching and a 2011 graduate of Classical High School.

 

Junior Christian Colavecchio (Foster, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the weight throw (15.17m; season-best), while also placing 23rd in the shot (11.42m; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed ninth in the weight throw (14.82m) and 14th in the shot (11.13m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. Colavecchio placed 32nd in the weight throw (14.35m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30-31. He placed sixth in the weight throw (14.02m) and 12th in the shot (10.20m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Colavecchio finished third in the weight throw (14.65m) and ninth in the shot (9.90m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 14th in the weight throw (14.02m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Colavecchio placed third in the weight throw (14.78m) and 13th in the shot (10.40m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Junior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) placed ninth in the weight throw (18.46m) at the NCAA National Championships on Mar. 13-14. He placed first in the weight throw (18.92m; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. Cummins placed fifth in the weight throw (18.19m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 28. He earned All-New England honors with a third place finish in the weight throw (18.05m) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 21. Cummins earned N.E. Alliance honors and took home the Alliance Championship in the weight throw (18.44m), while also placing 10th in the shot (12.70m), at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.  He placed second in the weight throw (17.74m) and 10th in the shot (12.68m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7.

 

Cummins placed seventh in the weight throw (17.47m) and 39th in the shot (12.26m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30-31. He placed first in the weight throw (16.82m) and third in the shot (12.32m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Cummins placed first in the weight throw (18.35m) and third in the shot (12.84m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 19th in the shot (12.61m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Cummins finished second in the weight throw (17.34m) and 25th in the shot (12.40m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. He finished second in the weight throw (17.17m) and sixth in the shot (12.93m; season-best) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6. Cummins was a two-time Little East Field Athlete of the Week honoree during the season.

 

Junior Kevin Redmond (Wakefield, RI) finished 12th in the shot (12.52m; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed 11th in the shot (12.24m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. Redmond finished 45th in the shot (11.76m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30-31. He finished fifth in the shot (12.10m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24.

 

Sophomore Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) finished 20th in the weight throw (14.47m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 28. He finished 13th in the weight throw (15.05m) and 20th in the shot (12.86m) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 21. Cabral earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events, placing second in the weight throw (15.39m) and sixth in the shot (13.57m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed fourth in the shot (13.94m; season-best) and eighth in the weight throw (15.20m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7.

 

Cabral finished 21st in the weight throw (14.87m) and 30th in the shot (13.42m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 31. He finished second in the shot (13.08m) and third in the weight throw (15.50m; season-best) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Cabral placed second in both the weight throw (14.70m) and the shot (13.60m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed ninth in the weight throw (14.14m) and 20th in the shot (12.57m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Cabral finished 12th in both the shot (13.75m) and weight throw (14.48m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. He finished third in the shot (13.53m) and fifth in the weight throw (13.88m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Seth Larbi (Pawtucket, RI) finished in 18th place in the weight throw (13.64m) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 20-21. He earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fifth place finish in the weight throw (14.87m; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Larbi finished 18th in the shot (10.35m; season-best) and 13th in the weight throw (13.82m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed 28th in the weight throw (14.48m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 31. Larbi placed fourth in the weight throw (14.60m) and 14th in the shot (9.91m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fourth in the weight throw (13.94m) and 10th in the shot (8.98m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Larbi finished 20th in the weight throw (12.40m) and 31st in the shot (10.08m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. He placed 19th in the weight throw (13.36m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Larbi finished sixth in the weight throw (13.88m) and 14th in the shot (10.07m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Steve Vazquez (Central Falls, RI) was named the Little East Conference Menís Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. He earned All-American honors by finishing in a three-way tie for first place, eventually taking second on tiebreakers, in the high jump (2.11m) at the 2015 NCAA National Championships on Mar. 13-14. He finished first in the high jump (2.14m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27-28. Vazquez earned All-New England honors with a first place finish in the high jump (2.16m; season-best) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 21.

 

He earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events by finishing first in the high jump (2.14m) and eighth in the triple jump (13.12m; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.  Vazquez placed second in the high jump (2.08m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He finished third in the high jump (2.05m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 31. Vazquez placed second in the high jump (2.02m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in both the high jump (2.03m) and the triple jump (12.53m), as well as eighth in the 200m (24.69) and 12th in the 55m (7.21m; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17.

 

Vazquez finished 38th in the 200m (24.12; season-best) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. He finished first in the high jump (2.08m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Vazquez placed first in both the high jump (2.08m) and the triple jump (12.82m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6. He was named the Little East Field Athlete of the Week on three different occasions.

 

Freshman Josue Astacio (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors by finishing eighth in the 600m (1:27.26; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Astacio placed 43rd in the 800m (2:08.52) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He finished 54th in the 500m (1:08.44; season-best) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. Astacio finished fourth in the 800m (2:08.28) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished 11th in the 800m (2:03.69; season-best) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Astacio finished fourth in the 800m (2:06.02) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman John Brapoh (Providence, RI) finished first in the 60m hurdles (8.53; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance meet on Mar. 6. Brapoh finished 14th in the 60m hurdles (8.79) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 21. He earned N.E. Alliance honors with a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.66) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Brapoh placed 19th in the 60m hurdles (8.89) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He finished 59th in the 60m hurdles (9.24) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. Brapoh placed fourth in the 55m hurdles (8.20; season-best) and 11th in the 200m (25.00) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 13th in the 60m hurdles (8.63) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10.  Brapoh placed 18th in the 60m hurdles (9.17) and 42nd in the 200m (24.47; season-best) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13.

 

Freshman Jake Brierly (Lincoln, RI) placed 13th in the weight throw (13.09m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Brierly finished 15th in the weight throw (13.15m; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He finished 46th in the weight throw (12.65m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 31. Brierly placed eighth in the weight throw (12.89m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed seventh in the weight throw (12.48m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Brierly placed 24th in the weight throw (11.70m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. He finished 26th in the weight throw (12.18m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Brierly finished 12th in the weight throw (12.03m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Jonathan Carney (Bristol, RI) finished 13th in the 5,000m (17:00.00), and 21st in the 3,000m (10:03.80) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Carney placed 10th in the 5,000m (16:58.07; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. Carney placed sixth in the 5,000m (17:15.22) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished 10th in the 3,000m (9:56.59) and 15th in the 1,000m (3:03.06) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Carney finished 23rd in the 1,000m (2:56.56; season-best) at the Yale Invitational on Jan 10.  He placed 13th in the 3,000m (9:42.12; season-best) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Carney placed 11th in the 5,000m (16:58.88) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) placed fourth in the 200m (23.47) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. He placed seventh in the 200m (23.26), 18th in the 60m (7.42) and 24th in the long jump (5.74m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Charles finished 13th in both the 60m (7.30; season-best) and the long jump (5.81m; season-best), while also placing 30th in the 200m (22.96; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb 7.  He placed 84th in the 60m (7.44) and 92nd in the 200m (22.96) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. Charles finished fourth in the 200m (23.57), 10th in the 60m (7.45) and 10th in the long jump (5.46m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in the 200m (23.66), eighth in the long jump (5.69m) and ninth in the 55m (7.00; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Charles placed 16th in the 200m (23.46) and 25th in the 60m (7.39) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10.  He finished 22nd in the 60m (7.34) and the 200m (23.39) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13.  Charles finished fourth in the 200m (24.11), ninth in the 60m (7.41) and 14th in the long jump (5.50m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Akiel Legall (Providence, RI) was named the Little East Conference Menís Rookie Field Athlete of the Year. A two-time Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and five-time Little East Menís Track Rookie of the Week selection, Legall placed third in the long jump (6.26m) and fifth in the 200m (23.73) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. He placed 20th in the long jump (5.93m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27-28. Legall finished ninth in the long jump (6.46m) and 17th in the 200m (23.62) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 20-21. He earned N.E. Alliance honors by placing fourth in the long jump (6.67m; season-best) and eighth in the 60m (7.37), while also placing 14th in the 200m (23.48), at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Legall finished sixth in the long jump (6.45m), ninth in the 60m (7.19) and 24th in the 200m (22.78; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed 25th in the long jump (6.20m) and 56th in the 60m (7.24) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 31.

 

Legall finished first in both the 200m (23.35) and the long jump (6.55m), while also placing second in the 60m (7.18), at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in the 55m (6.77; season-best), first in the long jump (6.50m) and second in the 200m (23.90) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Legall finished 10th in the long jump (6.34m), 13th in the 60m (7.16; season best) and 14th in the 200m (23.41) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. He placed fourth in the long jump (6.53m), 12th in the 60m (7.17) and 17th in the 200m (23.26) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Legall finished second in the 200m (23.85), second in the long jump (6.45m) and third in the 60m (7.19) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6. 

 

Freshman Joshua Peloquin (Smithfield, RI) placed 12th in both the 800m (2:43.77; season-best) and the mile (6:05.75; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17.

 

Freshman Steven Perez (Providence, RI) finished 13th in the 600m (1:29.09; season-best) and 21st in the 60m (7.50) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He finished 15th in the 500m (1:09.28; season-best) and 17th in the 60m (7.51) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed sixth in the 200m (24.16; season-best) and eighth in the 60m (7.63) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Perez finished sixth in the 55m (7.00) and seventh in the 400m (54.69; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 26th in the 500m (1:11.70) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Perez finished 11th in the 600m (1:30.82) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) placed sixth in the 60m hurdles  (8.98; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. He finished 12th in the 60m hurdles (9.17) and 18th in the triple jump (11.68m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Santos placed ninth in the triple jump (11.95m; season-best) and 23rd in the 60m hurdles (9.19) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. He finished 30th in the triple jump (11.93m) and 51st in the 60m hurdles (9.09) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. Santos placed seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.21) and the triple jump (11.83m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fifth in the triple jump (11.24m), 10th in the 55m hurdles (8.99; season-best) and the long jump (5.35m), while placing 13th in the 200m (25.17; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Santos placed 20th in the 60m hurdles (9.11) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. He placed 16th in the triple jump (11.20m) and 26th in the 60m hurdles (10.74) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Santos finished third in the 60m hurdles (9.32), fourth in the triple jump (11.51m) and 13th in the long jump (5.50m; season-best) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.
