COSTA, GIBLIN & JEAN-JACQUES WIN TITLES
AS ANCHORMEN FINISH FOURTH
AT DOUG PARKER INVITATIONAL

Springfield, Mass.-Senior Jonathan Costa (New Bedford, MA), junior Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Terrance Jean-Jacques (Haverhill, MA) each went a perfect 5-0 to win their respective weight classes as the Rhode Island College wrestling team placed fourth at the 2014 Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen totaled a score of 111.5 and placed fourth out of 18 teams. Roger Williams won the meet with a score of 164.5, followed by Williams (134.0) and Stevens Institute of Technology (116.0). Coast Guard finished right behind RIC with a score of 111.0 to round out the top five.

 

Costa won all five of his matches at 141 lbs. to claim the crown. Junior Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI) went 6-1 and picked up three pins as part of a third-place effort in the same weight class.

 

 

Junior 149 lbs. Shawn Giblin 

 

Giblin went 5-0 with one pin to claim the title at 149 lbs. Sophomore Victor Zabalu (Hudson, MA) went 5-2 with a pair of pins to finish sixth at 174 lbs.

 

Jean-Jacques went 5-0 with three pins to win the title at 285 lbs.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) rival Western New England on Friday, Dec. 5 (7 p.m.).
