VAZQUEZ LEADS RIC MEN'S TRACK TO FOURTH PLACE FINISH AT SPRINGFIELD INVITATIONAL

Springfield, Mass.-Sophomore Steven Vazquez (Central Falls, RI) recorded two first place finishes to lead the Rhode Island College menís indoor track & field team at the 2014 Springfield Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen placed fourth (four teams) with a team score of 104. WPI won the meet with a score of 185.

 

Vazquez finished first in both the high jump, with a school record (2.08m), and the triple jump (12.82m), while also being a member of the 4x400m team that took third overall (3:34.63).

Junior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) placed second in the weight throw (17.17m) and sixth in the shot (12.93m).

 

Senior Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.78), third in the long jump (6.29m) and ninth in the high jump (1.73m), as well as being a member of the 4x400 team that finished in third place.

 

Freshman Akiel Legall (Providence, RI) finished third in the 60m (7.19), second in the 200m (23.85) and second in the long jump (6.45m).

 

Sophomore Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) placed third in the shot (13.53m) and fifth in the weight throw (13.88m).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Northeastern Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 13.
