North Smithfield, R.I.-Freshman Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) won the 50-yard butterfly (30.68), 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.97) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:50.84), but it wouldn’t be enough as the Rhode Island College women’s swimming team fell,  119-101, to LEC foe Western Connecticut  at Bryant University on Sunday afternoon.


Curran picked up three victories for the Anchorwomen (1-4) who finished first in nine events at the meet.


The Colonials’ (2-5) freshman Ashlyn LaVallee (Bristol, CT) took victories in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.02), 200-yard backstroke (2:39.79) and finished second in the 50-yard butterfly (33.80) in the victory for the Colonials.


Freshman Taylor Ryan (Warwick, RI) took home victories in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.47) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.63). She also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.12).

Sophomore Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.65), the 50-yard freestyle (30.77) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:45.81) for the Anchorwomen.


Junior Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.36), the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.24) and the 200-yard IM (2:30.76).


Freshman Samantha Roberts (Willington, CT) placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (3:09.49).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Eastern Connecticut on Friday, Jan. 30.
