JOHNNA MAGIERA NAMED
ASSISTANT WOMEN’S SOCCER COACH

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College has named Johnna Magiera as the assistant women’s soccer coach. Magiera will assist Head Coach Christina Tavana with all aspects of the program including recruiting, scouting, administering practice and game coaching.

 

Magiera also works with the New England Revolution Academy, where she serves as a staff coach. Along with her experience with the Revolution, Magiera has served as an assistant coach with Bruno United F.C. for various age groups.

 

 

 

“I am very excited and thankful to be given the opportunity to join the RIC athletic community,” Magiera says. “I’m thrilled to join the student-athletes on their journey to strive for greatness both on and off the field. This is a program with a world of potential and together with Christina, I’m looking forward to reaching our goals and having a successful season.”

 

“I am thrilled to have Johnna as part of the coaching staff here at Rhode Island College,” Tavana said. “Her playing and coaching expertise will contribute a great deal to the platform of development and growth of the women’s soccer program I set to achieve earlier this year. With a shared passion for the game, a common goal, and similar coaching style, I am confident that we will succeed as a team on and off the field.”

 

A familiar name to Anchorwomen fans, the Coventry, R.I. native played two seasons for RIC during the  fall 2011 and 2012 campaigns. She played in 27 games, starting 10 of them. Magiera tallied two goals and three assists for seven points during her career.

 

 

 

As a junior in 2012, she played in 12 games, starting three of them. She tallied one goal for two points. As a sophomore in 2011, Magiera played in 15 games starting seven of them. She notched one goal and three assists for five points. 

 

She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rhode Island College in 2015. Magiera currently resides in Cranston.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College opens the 2015 season at Elms on Tuesday, Sept. 1 ( 7:30 p.m.).
