REILLY HELPS WOMEN’S TENNIS
TO, 8-1, VICTORY OVER WENTWORTH

Weston, Mass.-Rhode Island College sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) went 2-0 on the day, with victories at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with partner, junior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI), as the Anchorwomen topped Wentworth, 8-1, at the Regis College courts.

 

RIC’s (2-1) pairing of Reilly and Reddy topped Wentworth’s (1-1) sophomore pairing of Sam Webb (Westminster, MD) and Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, MA), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.

 

No. 2 doubles saw senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) best senior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, MA) and sophomore Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, RI), 8-4.

RIC completed the sweep of doubles points with senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) topping WIT senior Nicole Mooney (Waterford, CT) and freshman Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, MA, 8-4, at the No. 3 doubles slot.

 

Reilly beat Briggs (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 1 flight, while Campanella topped McColgan (6-1, 6-1) at No. 2 singles. Reddy bested Jodoin (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 singles and Cannata topped Mooney (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 4 slot.

 

Nastasi beat freshman Ellen Butts (Brookfield, MA) (6-4, 6-1) at No. 5 singles while the Leopards earned their lone victory of the day when Webb bested RIC junior Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) (6-3, 6-3) at No. 6 singles.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Suffolk on Tuesday, Sept. 8 (4 p.m.).
