RIC BLANKS SOUTHERN MAINE, 9-0, FOR
FIRST LITTLE EAST WIN

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) went 2-0 on the day as the Anchorwomen picked up their fourth consecutive victory by besting Little East Conference foe Southern Maine, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen (4-1, 1-0 LEC) swept all three doubles points from the Huskies (1-3, 0-2 LEC). Sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and junior partner Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) topped the USM junior pairing of Liz Martin (Naugatuck, CT) and Katie Quinn (Hollis, ME), 8-0, at No. 1 doubles.

 

No. 2 doubles saw Campanella and junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) top senior Emily Estes (Gorham, ME) and junior Rikki Demoranville (Madawaska, ME), 8-3.

In the final doubles match, RIC senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) bested junior Kara Weiske (Nobleboro, ME) and senior Molly Gallagher (South Portland, ME), 8-6.

 

Reilly cruised past Gallagher at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-0) with Campanella topping Quinn (6-4, 6-1) at the No. 2 slot. Reddy bested Martin (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 singles and Cannata topped Estes at the No. 4 flight (6-3, 6-0).

 

Nastasi breezed by Demoranville (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 singles and Martin topped Weiske (6-4, 6-2) at No. 6 singles to complete the sweep.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at Western Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 19 (1 p.m.).
