RIC STAYS PERFECT IN LEAGUE PLAY WITH, 9-0, SHUTOUT AT WESTERN CONNECTICUT

Danbury, Conn.-Rhode Island College used a complete team effort as they topped Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut, 9-0, to secure the teamís fifth straight victory and their second consecutive win in league play.

 

RIC (5-1, 2-0 LEC) sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and junior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) topped WCSU (3-1, 0-1 LEC) senior Angelica Jara (Patterson, NY) and sophomore Lianne Maynard (Milford, CT), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.

 

No. 2 doubles saw RIC senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) best senior Alisa Akam (New Fairfield, CT) and junior Olivia Mauro (Harwinton, CT), 8-1.

 

 

 

No. 3 doubles saw senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) defeat senior Alexandra Moravsky (Sherman, CT) and junior Violet Lisi (New Fairfield, CT), 8-0, to secure the RIC sweep of doubles points.

 

Reilly topped Maynard (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 1 flight with Campanella besting Jara (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 2 flight.

 

Reddy defeated Mauro (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 singles while Cannata topped junior Carine Jacque (New London, CT) (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 4 flight.

 

Nastasi bested Akam (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles with Martin beating junior Karen Velez (Danbury, CT) at the No. 6 flight to secure the 9-0 victory for the Anchorwomen.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Sept. 22 (3:30 p.m.).
