Providence, R.I.--Junior defensive specialist Nicole Thibodeau (Loxahatchee, FL) recorded a match-best six aces as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team roared past the Eastern Nazarene Lions, 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-18), in non-conference action played at The Murray Center on Monday evening.


The Anchorwomen (5-5) raced out to an early lead in the first set and never looked back, roaring past the Lions (3-10) for the, 25-7, victory. The Anchorwomen hit .400 as a team, registering 10 kills and only two errors on just 20 attempts.


The second set saw the teams trade points early, but RIC was able to put some distance between themselves and Eastern Nazarene in the middle of the frame, finally pulling away for the 25-12 victory in the second frame.

The third set saw the Anchorwomen’s reserves show their potential as they overcame a late run by the Lions to secure the 25-18 victory and complete the sweep. Thibodeau provided RIC with a veteran presence on the floor in the set with freshman setter Cassia Spivey (East Providence, RI) and freshman outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) combining to provide much of the offense for the Anchorwomen.


Senior outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) led all players with 10 kills on the day and a .529 hitting percentage. Ward ranked second on the team with eight kills, while sophomore setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) led the squad with 28 assists. Thibodeau registered six aces and Spivey tallied five aces for the Anchorwomen.


The Lions were led by junior middle hitter Joanna Joseph (Brockton, MA) who recorded a team-best six kills with senior setter Hannah Welsh (Derry, NH) leading the squad with six assists. Sophomore outside hitter Madisen Robinson (West Grove, PA) led the Lions with six digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College resume Little East Conference action at Plymouth State, which includes a match with Husson, on Saturday, Sept. 26 (Noon).
