Plymouth, N.H.--Junior middle blocker Sierra Smith (Longmont, CO) hit an astounding .654, to go along with 17 kills, as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team went 2-0 at a tri-match hosted by Plymouth State on Saturday.


The Anchorwomen (7-5, 1-1 LEC) topped Plymouth State (11-4, 1-1 LEC) 3-2 (17-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11) and Husson (6-12) 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-6).


The Anchorwomen fell down 0-2 early after two sets against the host Panthers but were able to rally, taking the next three sets by a combined eight points to complete the come-from-behind victory. Senior outside hitter Kelsey Lace (Glendale, RI) led the Anchorwomen with 16 kills and 14 digs, while Smith registered 10 kills on an astounding .769 hitting percentage.

The match against Husson was a clean sweep for RIC, as they bested Eagles 25-10, 25-11 and 25-6. Sophomore setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) led the way with 28 assists and freshman outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) registered 10 kills in the victory.


Lace finished with 25 kills and 16 digs on the day with Ward (19), Smith (17) and senior outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) (12), all reaching double figures in kills on the day. White led the squad with 67 assists and junior defensive specialist Nicole Thibodeau (Loxahatchee, FL) paced the squad with a combined 18 digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Johnson & Wales Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3.
