MALBOEUF & WARD EARN WEEKLY LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL AWARDS

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) and freshman outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) were recognized by the Little East Conference for their respective performances in a 4-0 week for the Anchorwomen.

 

RIC (11-5) captured the 2015 Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3. The Anchorwomen downed the Wildcats, 3-0, and the University of New England, 3-2, on Oct. 2. RIC followed with a 3-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark and a 3-2 win vs. Bridgewater State in the title contest on Oct. 3.

 

Malboeuf was named the Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. She was the Wildcat Invitational’s Most Outstanding Player. She played in 16 sets in four matches, totaling a .230 hitting percentage, 50 kills, 10 aces, 51 digs and eight blocks.

For the season, she has played in 50 sets in 14 matches. Malboeuf has a .167 hitting percentage to go along with 122 kills, 19 services aces, 112 digs and 14 blocks.

 

Ward was named the Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. She played in 15 sets in four matches, totaling a .141 hitting percentage to go along with 21 kills, seven aces, 21 digs and seven blocks.

 

For the season, she has played in 50 sets in 16 matches. Ward has a .111 hitting percentage to go along with 93 kills, 10 service aces, 74 digs and 12 blocks.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at home against Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 6 (7 p.m.).
