ZARRAGA & VAZQUEZ EARN WEEKLY LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE MENíS SOCCER AWARDS

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior forward Jose Zarraga (Providence, RI) and freshman midfielder Dennis Vazquez (Providence, RI) were recognized for their respective performances in a 2-0 week for the Anchormen.

 

Zarraga was named the Little East Conference Menís Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. He came off the bench to contribute a goal and an assist as RIC downed Curry, 3-0, on Oct. 7. He netted the game-winning goal off a free kick to help the Anchormen defeat longtime Little East rival Keene State, 3-1, on Oct. 10.

For the season, he has played in 10 games, starting nine of them. He has seven goals and five assists for 19 points. Zarraga has scored the game-winning goal three times this fall.

 

Vazquez was named the Little East Conference Menís Soccer Rookie of the Week.  He drew a foul, which led to Zarragaís game-winning free kick, and later scored an insurance goal, as RIC defeated Keene State.

For the season, he has played in 11 games, starting 10 of them. He has three goals and five assists for 11 points.

 

Head Coach John Melloís team is 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen have won five straight games.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 17 (2:30 p.m.).
