Providence, R.I.óThe Gordon College Fighting Scots earned victories at all three doubles pairings, to go along with a sweep of all six singles matchups, to top the Rhode Island College womenís tennis team, 9-0, in non-conference action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Tuesday.


Doubles action saw Gordonís (11-3) pairing of freshman Abigail Denney (Peoria, AZ) and senior Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, CA) top the RIC (10-2) duo of senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI), 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.


The No. 2 matchup saw the Gordon pairing of sophomore Katherine Jeffreys (Parkton, MD) and freshman Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, CA) best the RIC duo of freshman Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore Isabella Romeo (Greenville, RI), 8-0.


The Fighting Scots earned the sweep with senior Lily Drescher (Reading, MA) and freshman Gabrielle Brucker (Eleva, WI) top the RIC duo of senior Jessica Rieman (South Weymouth, MA) and junior Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-4, at third doubles.


Denney topped sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 singles with Campanella falling to Yeaw (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 2 flight.


Jeffreys bested sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3 singles, while junior Abby Caron (Bedford, NH) bested Braganca (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 4 match.


Drescher topped RIC freshman Daniel Chavez (North Providence, RI) (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles with junior Haley Bean (Trumbull, CT) completing the sweep at No. 6 singles with a victory over Romeo (6-3, 6-3).


The loss snaps a 10-match winning streak for the Anchorwomen.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference at Bridgewater State on Friday, Oct. 16 (3:30 p.m.).
