Bridgewater, Mass.Rhode Island College used a strong performance by senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) to clinch at least a share of the 2015 Little East Conference Regular Season Championship by topping Bridgewater State, 5-4, in a pivotal conference clash played at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.


The Anchorwomen (11-2, 7-0 LEC) started doubles action on a high note with sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and junior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) topping BSU (8-5, 6-1 LEC) sophomore Alisha Silva (Taunton, MA) and freshman Hayley Anderson (San Antonio, TX), 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.


No. 2 doubles saw the Anchorwomen earn their second point of the match with Campanella and junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) defeating senior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, MA) and sophomore Rebecca Zeuschner (West Hartford, CT), 8-5.

The Bears were able to make the match 2-1 heading into singles action as their sophomore duo of Bojana Roman (Somerset, MA) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, MA) bested the RIC pairing of senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ), 8-3.


The first match in singles to finish saw BSU knot the series up at 2-2 with Roman topping Martin (6-0, 6-1) at No. 6. Reilly was able to give RIC the advantage again with her victory over Vautrin (6-2, 6-1) at No. 1 singles.


Cannata put the Anchorwomen within one point of the victory as she bested Zeuschner (6-0, 6-3) at No. 4 singles with Campanella clinching the victory for the Anchorwomen with her victory over Silva (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 2 flight.


Anderson defeated Reddy (2-6, 6-3, 6-1) at No. 3 singles with Scagnelli topping Nastasi (6-1, 6-7 (7-5), 10-7) at the No. 5 flight to close out the match.


The Anchorwomen will look to clinch the outright LEC regular season title and homecourt advantage throughout the upcoming conference playoffs when they host Salem State on Saturday, October 17 (1 p.m.).
