Providence, R.I.-The Springfield College Pride used a dominating doubles sweep to race to a 9-0 victory over the Rhode Island College menís tennis team at the RIC Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.


Springfield (4-3) jumped out early, with juniors Justin Danielewicz (Portland, CT) and Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, MA) topping RICís (0-4) duo of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-2.


The Pride extended their lead with sophomore Alex Romaine (Stamford, CT) and freshman Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) besting RICís freshmen pairing of Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) and Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI), 8-0, in one match, while junior Kyle Beynor (Prospect, CT) and sophomore Cameron Grant (Babylon, NY) bested the RIC pairing of junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI), 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.


Romaine breezed by Taggart (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, while Honda bested Tiberi (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 2 flight.


Beynor bested junior Sam Perry (Smithfield, RI) (6-1, 6-0) at No. 3 singles with Grant topping Scott (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 4 slot.


Duquette fell to sophomore Zack Keene (Feeding Hills, MA) (6-2, 6-2) at No 5 singles, while sophomore Chris Unger (Westfield, MA) topped Gambardella (6-4, 6-0) at the No. 6 flight.


In upcoming action, the Anchormen will take on Suffolk University at BB&N School on Tuesday, Mar. 29 (6:30 p.m.).
