Providence, R.I.óRhode Island College junior center fielder Lauren Duvall (East Greenwich, RI) hit a walk-off homer in game one to end the game early and propel the Anchorwomen to a doubleheader sweep of Husson played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

RIC knotted the game in the bottom of the inning before racing ahead in the bottom half of the fourth. With no outs and runners on second and third, freshman shortstop Kelsey Burgess (North Providence, RI) ripped a two-RBI triple to put the Anchorwomen ahead for good. A sacrifice fly by Venturini added one more insurance run to set the stage for Duvallís walk-off winner in the bottom of the fifth.

Venturini started the offensive outburst with a two-out single to center field. Duvall stepped to the plate with runners on second and third and two-down before she ripped a three-run homer to left field to walk off in a game that was shortened due to the 8-run rule.

Senior pitcher Katelyn McCaughey (Warwick, RI) (4-0) went all five innings, allowing three runs (all earned) and striking out four. Husson junior Alannah Healy (Brockton, MA) (2-6) went 4.2 innings, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits.

The Anchorwomen were in a much closer game in game two, with the Eagles holding a 4-2 advantage following two and a half innings. RIC was able to knot the game at four apiece in the bottom of the third with Venturini and Duvall each registering an RBI in the frame.

RIC ripped open the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on three hits. The Eagles were able to tack on a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning, but RIC answered with an RBI single by junior third baseman Mary Sweeny (Portsmouth, RI). Three fly-outs in the top of the seventh allowed the Anchorwomen to complete the sweep with an 11-6 victory in game two.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Bridgewater State on Tuesday, March 29 (4 p.m.).
