North Adams, Mass.-Rhode Island College took victories at No. 3 singles through No.6 singles, to go along with a pair of doubles victories, to secure a 6-3 non-conference victory over the MCLA Trailblazers in menís tennis action on Thursday afternoon.


MCLA (0-3) got off to a quick start in doubles, with sophomore Aaron Goldsmith (Mattapan, MA) and junior Robert Wabshinak (Brewster, NY) topping the RIC (2-5) duo of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore  Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-1, at the No. 1 pairing.


The Anchormen responded with the freshmen pairing of Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) and Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) topping the MCLA duo of senior Richard LaRocque (Ludlow, MA) and sophomore Michael Rooney (Bronx, NY), 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.

RIC took the victory at No. 3 doubles with junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) besting junior Jeffrey Mason (Chicopee, MA) and sophomore Jared Freeman (Schenectady, NY), 8-2.


Goldsmith topped Taggart (6-4, 6-3) at No. 1 singles with Wabshinak topping Tiberi (6-4, 6-0) at the No. 2 flight.


Esposito started the string of victories for the Anchormen by topping LaRoque (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 singles.  Scott continued the momentum, downing Rooney (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 4 flight.


Duquette bested Mason (6-2, 6-3) at No. 5 singles with Gambardella completing the victory with a win over Freeman (6-0, 6-2) at No. 6 singles.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Thomas on Sunday, April 10 (1 p.m.).
