Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior gymnast Cherise Lee (Burlington, NJ) received the Paul Bourget Family Scholarship at the college’s annual Cap and Gown ceremony on Wednesday morning.


Lee, who missed her senior season this past winter due to an injury, is returning to Rhode Island College to pursue a graduate degree and use her final season of eligibility in 2016-17.




As a junior in 2014-15, Lee averaged a score of 8.795 on floor for the season. She registered a season-high score of 9.300 against Springfield on Mar. 9.


As a sophomore in 2013-14, Lee averaged scores of 8.957 on vault, 8.242 on floor and 7.300 on beam for the year. She chalked up a season-high score of 9.100 on vault at the Brown Invitational on Jan. 26 and tallied a season-high score of 8.550 on floor at the Ithaca Tri on Feb. 15.


As a freshman in 2012-13, Lee was named the 2013 ECAC Rookie Gymnast of the Year. She averaged a score of 9.111 on vault, with her season-high score of 9.350 coming at the Springfield Tri on Jan. 13. Lee posted a season-high score of 8.675 on floor at the Ithaca Quad on Feb. 16 and averaged a score of 8.415 on floor for the season. She was named the ECAC Rookie Gymnast of the Week once on the year.


Head Coach Bob Nannig’s team concluded the 2015-16 season with a 1-5 overall record and finished sixth at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Regional.
