ANCHORMEN PUNCH THEIR TICKET TO
LITTLE EAST TOURNAMENT WITH, 7-2, WIN
AT BRIDGEWATER STATE

Bridgewater, Mass.--Rhode Island College junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Matt Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) each won their respective singles and doubles matches to lead the Anchormen past Bridgewater State, 7-2, in Little East Conference menís tennis action.

 

The Anchormen (3-12, 1-5 LEC) claim the final spot in the upcoming 2016 Little East Conference Menís Tennis Tournament and will travel to third-seeded UMass Boston in first round action on Tuesday, May 3. The Bears (3-8, 0-6 LEC) see their season come to an end in the loss.

 

RIC junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) downed BSU junior Matt McGee (Tiverton, RI) and freshman Alex Belinsky (Norton, MA), 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.

RIC freshman Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) and Gambardella defeated BSU freshman Harrison Ryan (Halifax, MA) and junior Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, MA), 9-8 (8-6) at No. 2 doubles.

 

Duquette and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) defeated BSU senior Andrew Narciso (East Bridgewater, MA) and sophomore Zach Mutti (Peabody, MA), 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.

 

In singles action, McGee topped Taggart (6-4, 6-0) at No. 1 singles. Tiberi bested Haley (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2 singles.

 

Ryan  defeated Scott (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3 singles, while Esposito downed Narciso (6-1, 6-4) at the fourth flight.

 

Gambardella bested Mutti (6-1, 6-1) and Duquette defeated freshman Michael Scollins (Marshfield, MA) (7-5, 7-6) at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
