Cambridge, Mass.-Rhode Island College junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) teamed up for a victory at No. 3 doubles, but the sixth-seeded Anchormen would see their season come to a close, falling to the No. 3 seed UMass Boston, 5-1, in Little East Conference Menís Tennis Tournament action played at Harvard University's Murr Center on Wednesday afternoon.


The Beacons (7-11) will face No. 2-seeded UMass Dartmouth in the semifinals on Thursday, while the Anchormen (3-13) see their season come to a close.


UMB got started quickly in doubles, with junior Jack Wang (Suzhou, China) and freshman Josh Bhasin (Tulsa, OK) topping the RIC pairing of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-2, at the No. 1 pairing.

No. 2 doubles saw UMBís sophomore duo of Guang Huang (Quincy, MA) and Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico) top the RIC freshmen pairing of Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) and Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI), 8-2.


Scott and Duquette got RIC on the board as they notched the lone victory of the day for RIC, topping senior Vlad Leopard (Carnikava, Latvia) and junior Hector Mata (San Salvador, El Salvador), 9-8 (7-4), at No. 3 doubles.


Bhasin bested Tiberi (6-0, 6-2) at No. 2 singles and Wang topped Scott (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3 singles. UMB secured the victory when sophomore Sanshrut Sharma (Mumbai, India) bested Gambardella (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles to secure the five points needed for the win.


In unfinished match action, DeLasse led Taggart (6-2, 3-3) at the No. 1 pairing, with sophomore Adhirath Bhatotia (New Delhi, India) leading Esposito (6-3, 1-0) at the No. 4 flight. Leopard was ahead of Duquette (6-1, 3-1) at No. 6 singles.
