COOPER ADVANCES AS RIC MEN'S GOLF FINISHES 25TH AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Penfield, N.Y.-Rhode Island College senior Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) finished tied for 17th with a two-day score of 148 (74, 74; +5), made the cut as an individual and led the Rhode Island College to a 25th place (41 teams)  finish at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Menís Golf National Championships on Wednesday afternoon.

 

RIC compiled at two-day score of 628 (316, 312; +56). The 25th-place finish is the highest the Anchormen have ever recorded in five trips to the NCAA Championships. Cooper is also the first RIC golfer ever to advance as an individual past the first two rounds. The top 15 teams advance and the top six remaining golfers (not on those 15 teams) advance to the next round.

Freshman Tom Sheran (Marston Mills, MA) carded a 158 (81, 77; +15) to finish in a tie for 104th. Junior Steven Letterle (Cranston, RI) finished in a tie for 129th with a two-day score of 160 (78, 82; +17).

 

Sophomore Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) finished tied for 145th and shot 162 (83, 79; +19). Senior Peter Camerlengo (Pembroke, MA) rounded out the RIC quintet, shooting a 170 (88, 82; +27) to finish in a tie for 192nd.
