CUMMINS LEADS RIC AT NEW ENGLAND
OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

New Haven, Conn.--Rhode Island College senior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) notched one top-three finish to lead the menís and womenís outdoor track & field teams at the 2016 New England Open Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut on Friday and Saturday.

 

The Anchormen finished 26th (38 teams) with a score of 8.0. The Anchorwomen finished 34th (38 teams) with a score of 1.0. The meet featured competitors from all NCAA Div. I, II and III divisions.

Cummins finished second in the hammer (61.15m; new program record). Sophomore Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) finished 10th in the hammer (50.15m).

Senior Christian Colavecchio (Foster, RI) finished 19th in the hammer (45.65m) with sophomore Jake Brierly (Lincoln, RI) finishing 23rd in the hammer (42.51m). Sophomore Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) finished 23rd in the 110m hurdles (19.47).

 

 

 Freshman Eleni Grammas

 

Senior Autumn Wosencroft (Newport, RI) finished 12th in the 400m (57.20), 17th in the 200m (25.59) and 21st in the long jump (4.96m).

 

Freshman Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) finished eighth in the triple jump (11.41m) and 12th in the high jump (1.60m).

 

Freshman Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) finished 19th in the 100m (12.54).
