EDWARD CUMMINS QUALIFIES FOR NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN HAMMER

Providence, R.I.--Rhode Island College senior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) has qualified for the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, which will be held at Wartburg College in Waverley, Iowa on Thursday and Friday, May 26-27.

 

Cummins will compete in the hammer and will be making his sixth trip to the National Championships (three indoor; three outdoor). He earned All-American honors in the hammer with a sixth place finish last May.

 

He finished second in the hammer (61.15m; new program record) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 14. Cummins finished first in the hammer (57.86m) to capture individual title and claimed the All-New England honors at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 7. He also placed 14th in the discus (39.94m).

 

 

 

He earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, taking the title in the hammer (60.26m), finishing fifth in the shot (13.75m) and sixth in the discus (39.62m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. Cummins finished first in the hammer (57.94m), third in the discus (42.03m) and sixth in the shot (13.10m) at the MIT Invitational on April 23.

 

He finished first in the hammer (57.57m), fifth in the discus (40.36m) and seventh in the shot (13.26m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 16. Cummins broke the facility record in the hammer (60.10m), while also placing seventh in the discus (39.48m), at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 9.

 

He finished first in the hammer (57.80m), third in the discus (40.84m) and seventh in the shot (12.55m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 2.
