MONICA MESALLES NASSI NAMED
ASSISTANT WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS COACH

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College has named Monica Mesalles Nassi as an assistant women’s gymnastics coach. She will help Head Coach Bob Nannig with all facets of the program including recruiting, scouting administering practice and meet coaching.

Nassi joins the staff following a successful collegiate career at the University of Bridgeport, an NCAA Division II gymnastics powerhouse. A four-year competitor for the Purple Knights, Nassi earned USAG National Championship honors seven times during her career, including three straight titles on floor. A three-time captain, she was a member of four straight USAG National Championship squads.

“I am very excited to coach at a college level.” Nassi said. “I have high expectations for the team and I would like to impart my knowledge to the gymnasts and for them to achieve their best results. I am looking forward to this team getting better and better every year.”

“I am very excited to have Monica with us this season,” Nannig says. “Her experiences in the competitive gymnastics arena are so extensive, specifically at an international world class level, that our student-athletes here at RIC will benefit immensely. Having been an Olympic competitor and a Division II National Champion speaks for itself. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work with her and believe she will help to take our program to the next level.”

Prior to her time at Bridgeport, Nassi was a member of the Spanish National Team that finished fifth at both the 2004 Olympics in Athens and the 2003 World Championships in Anaheim. She also earned the vault title and placed fifth on beam at the 2005 World Cup in Germany. Nassi was also a six-time champion at the Spanish National Championships.

Nassi is a 2013 graduate of the University of Bridgeport where she earned a bachelor’s degree in International Business with a minor in finance.
