Willimantic, Conn.--Rhode Island College freshman guard Jimmy Fritzson (Sharon, MA) and center Jason Jones (Roxbury, MA) each scored 14 points as the Anchormen dropped a Little East Conference menís basketball contest, 77-44, to Eastern Connecticut at Geissler Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors (7-3, 2-0 LEC) opened a 9-4 lead, capped by a trey by sophomore guard Tarchee Brown (Rockville, CT) with 15:54 left in the half. Back-to-back buckets by Jones cut the deficit down to one, 9-8 with 13:41 left in the half, but that is as close as the Anchormen (1-10) would get for the remainder of the frame as ECSU outscored RIC, 25-6, over the remainder of the stanza to take a commanding, 34-14, advantage into the half.

RIC shot 23.3 percent (7-for-30) from the field as a team, while the Warriors shot 40.0 percent (14-for-35) from the field and 33.3 percent (3-for-9) from downtown.

The Anchormen cut the lead down to 15, 43-28, on a layup by Fritzson with 14:26 left in the second period, but the Warriors defense proved to be too much, extending the teamís advantage to 27 points following a dunk by junior forward Hugh Lindo (Enfield, CT) with 5:52 left in the half. Eastern was able to put the clamps on the Anchormenís offense, holding the Anchormen to just four points over the remaining 5:52 to walk away with the victory.

Fritzson scored his 14 points on 6-for-16 shooting, with Jones adding 10 rebounds to go along with his 14 points. RIC shot 31.0 percent (18-for-52) from the floor as a team.

Brown and Lindo each scored 11 points for the Warriors, with Lindo added seven boards, five assists and five blocks in the victory. Eastern shot 48.5 percent (32-for-66) from the field, while hitting 35.3 percent (6-for-17) from downtown as a squad.

Eastern dominated the glass, 46-32, on the day.
