OSBORN LEADS RIC WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS IN SEASON-OPENING LOSS TO LONGTIME NEMESIS

Springfield, Mass.--Rhode Island College sophomore Courtney Osborn (Pomfret, CT) finished third in the all-around with a score of 35.975 to lead the Rhode Island College women’s gymnastics team as they fell to long-time rival Springfield College in their season-opener, 182.850-176.100, on Saturday afternoon.

The Anchorwomen’s (0-1) score is the program’s highest score in a season-opening meet since RIC topped now-defunct MIT, 176.300-174.275, in the 2002-03 campaign.

Osborn finished third on floor (9.100), fourth on bars (8.600), fifth on beam (9.100), while also posting a ninth place finish on vault (9.175).

Sophomore Victoria Costello (Housatonic, MA) finished in a fourth place tie on vault with a 9.400 and a 10th place finish on floor (8.500). Freshman Allie DiBiase (North Kingstown, RI) finished sixth on vault (9.350), tied for fifth on floor (8.900), was sixth on bars (8.440) and 11th on beam (8.350), which good for a fourth place effort (35.000) to round out all competitors in the all-around.

Junior Emily Murphy (Hampden, MA) finished third on beam (9.250).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at West Chester on Saturday, Jan. 16 (1 p.m.).
