BRUNELLE AND CUMMINS BREAK RIC RECORDS
AT NEW ENGLAND OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Boston, Mass.-Rhode Island College senior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) and freshman Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) each notched second place finishes to lead the Rhode Island College menís and womenís indoor track and field teams at the 2016 N.E. Open Championships, hosted by Boston University on Friday and Saturday.

 

The Anchormen finished 25th (36 teams) with a score of 25.0. The Anchorwomen finished 22nd (32 teams) with a score of 8.0. URI won the menís meet with a score of 126.0 with Northeastern taking the victory on the womenís side with a score of 157.0.

 

Cummins finished second in the weight throw (19.22m; new school record). Junior Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) finished seventh in the weight throw (16.76m), while also competing in the shot. Senior Christian Colavecchio (Foster, RI) finished 22nd in the weight throw (14.25m).

Junior Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) finished 23rd in the weight throw (14.22m). Junior Joel Ikuejamofo (Providence, RI) finished 28th in the 400m (50.72). Sophomore Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) finished 29th in the 200m (22.76).

 

On the womenís side, Brunelle finished second in the triple jump (11.86m; new school record) and 14th in the high jump (1.61m). Senior Autumn Wosencroft (Newport, RI) finished 22nd in the 400m (57.87) and 24th in the 200m (25.71).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Tufts Last Chance Invitational on Friday, Mar. 4 (2 p.m.).
