SIX ANCHORMEN RECOGNIZED BY
NEW ENGLAND WRESTLING ASSOCIATION

Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College seniors Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI) and Brandon Conrad (East Bridgewater, MA) were named First Team All-Stars by the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) for their performance during the 2015-16 season.

 

 

 Senior 141 lbs. Shawn Giblin

 

Giblin was named a First Team All-Star at 141 lbs. He placed eighth and captured All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships on March 11-12. Giblin placed first and won the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Feb. 28. For the season, he was 21-4 to go along with nine pins.

 

 

 Senior 184 lbs. Brandon Conrad

 

Conrad was named a First Team All-Star at 184 lbs. He placed seventh and captured All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships on March 11-12. Conrad finished third at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Feb. 28. For the season, he was 26-8 to go along with four pins.

 

 

 Sophomore 133 lbs. Stephen Masi

 

Sophomore Stephen Masi (Cumberland, RI) was an Honorable Mention All-Star selection at 133 lbs. and also secured a spot on the league’s All-Academic Team. He finished sixth to earn All-Region honors as the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Feb. 28. For the season, he was 12-18 with one pin.

 

In addition to Masi, seniors 149 lbs. Jonathan Costa (New Bedford, MA), 149 lbs. Chris Kelly (Franklin, MA) and 165 lbs. Kyle Lake (Toms River, NJ) were named to the All-Academic Team.

Head Coach Jay Jones’ team finished the season with an 8-8 overall record. The Anchormen finished seventh (14 teams) at the 2016 NEWA Dual Championship on Jan. 23, eighth (18 teams) at the 2016 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Feb. 27-28 and 29th (53 teams) at the 2016 NCAA Div. III National Wrestling Championships on March 11-12.
