2015-16 Rhode Island College
Menís Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Kevin Jacksonís menís indoor track & field team wrapped up the 2015-16 season by sending one individual to the 2016 NCAA Div. III Menís Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Grinnell, Iowa, Mar. 11-12. The Anchormen did not score as a team.

 

Prior to the NCAA Championships, the Anchormen finished 25th (36 teams) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb 26-27. RIC finished 13th (26 teams) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. The Anchormen placed seventh (11 teams) in the Alliance and third (seven teams) in the Little East at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13.

 

 

 

Senior Christian Colavecchio (Foster, RI) finished fifth in the weight throw (15.49m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 22nd in the weight throw (14.25m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. Colavecchio finished 10th in the weight throw (14.89m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. He earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the weight throw (15.33m), while also finishing 24th in the shot (11.50m; season-best) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Colavecchio finished eighth in the weight throw (15.60m) and 28th in the shot (10.20m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. He finished 16th in the weight throw (15.92m; season-best) and 55th in the shot (11.49m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. Colavecchio finished eighth in the shot (11.14m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished third in the weight throw (15.37m) and 10th in the shot (10.51m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Colavecchio finished ninth in the weight throw (14.96m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. He finished fifth in the weight throw (14.37m) and 10th in the shot (10.88m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

As a junior in 2014-15, Colavecchio earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the weight throw (15.17m; season-best), while also placing 23rd in the shot (11.42m; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed ninth in the weight throw (14.82m) and 14th in the shot (11.13m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. Colavecchio placed 32nd in the weight throw (14.35m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30-31. He placed sixth in the weight throw (14.02m) and 12th in the shot (10.20m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Colavecchio finished third in the weight throw (14.65m) and ninth in the shot (9.90m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 14th in the weight throw (14.02m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Colavecchio placed third in the weight throw (14.78m) and 13th in the shot (10.40m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

As a sophomore in 2013-14, Colavecchio finished 20th (13.32m) in the weight throw at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 21-22. He finished 11th in the weight throw (13.75m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 15. Colavecchio finished 24th in the weight throw (14.00m) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8. He finished fourth in the weight throw (15.21m; season-best) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 1. Colavecchio placed 42nd in the weight throw (12.88m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 25. He placed fifth in the weight throw (13.05m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 18. Colavecchio placed fourth in the weight throw (12.59m) and seventh in the shot (8.31m; season-best) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 11. He finished 16th in the weight throw (10.46m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 14. Colavecchio finished eighth in the weight throw (12.95m) and 19th in the shot (7.31m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 7.

 

As a freshman in 2012-13, Colavecchio placed 20th in the weight throw with a season-high mark of 11.03m at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. He finished 25th in the weight throw (10.46m) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 2. Colavecchio placed 14th in the weight throw (9.57m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 19. He placed 39th in the weight throw (8.61m) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8. Colavecchio placed 18th in the weight throw (8.46m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1.

 

Colavecchio is a radiology major and a 2012 graduate of Cranston High School West.

                                                                                   

Senior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) was named the Little East Conference Menís Field Athlete of the Year. Cummins finished 12th in the weight throw (17.00m) at the NCAA National Championships on Mar. 11-12. He finished first in the weight throw (19.28m; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. Cummins finished second in the weight throw (19.22m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. He earned All-New England honors, finishing first in the weight throw (18.57m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. Cummins earned N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish in the weight throw (18.56m), while also finishing 12th in the shot (12.41m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished first in the weight throw (18.76m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Cummins finished seventh in the weight throw (18.65m) and 48th in the shot (12.48m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. He finished fourth in the shot (12.35m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Cummins finished first in the weight throw (17.74m) and second in the shot (13.02m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. He finished second in the weight throw (18.57m) and 16th in the shot (12.73m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. Cummins finished first in the weight throw (17.69m) and fourth in the shot (13.07m; season-best) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5. He was named the Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week five times on the year.

 

As a junior in 2014-15, Cummins placed ninth in the weight throw (18.46m) at the NCAA National Championships on Mar. 13-14. He placed first in the weight throw (18.92m; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 6. Cummins placed fifth in the weight throw (18.19m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 28. He earned All-New England honors with a third place finish in the weight throw (18.05m) at the N.E. Championships on Feb. 21. Cummins earned N.E. Alliance honors and took home the Alliance Championship in the weight throw (18.44m), while also placing 10th in the shot (12.70m), at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14.  He placed second in the weight throw (17.74m) and 10th in the shot (12.68m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7.

 

Cummins placed seventh in the weight throw (17.47m) and 39th in the shot (12.26m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30-31. He placed first in the weight throw (16.82m) and third in the shot (12.32m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Cummins placed first in the weight throw (18.35m) and third in the shot (12.84m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 19th in the shot (12.61m) at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 10. Cummins finished second in the weight throw (17.34m) and 25th in the shot (12.40m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. He finished second in the weight throw (17.17m) and sixth in the shot (12.93m; season-best) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6. Cummins was a two-time Little East Field Athlete of the Week honoree during the season.

 

As a sophomore in 2013-14, Cummins was named the team's MVP. He finished 13th in the preliminary round of the weight throw (17.21m) at the NCAA National Championships held on March 14. He took seventh in the weight throw (17.60m) at the N.E. Open Championships on March 1. Cummins took third place in the weight throw (17.60m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 21-22. He finished first in the Alliance to take the crown in the weight throw and established a new program record (18.34m), while also earning N.E. Alliance honors in the shot (13.45m) with a sixth-place finish at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 15. Cummins finished 30th in the shot (13.57m; season-best) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8.

 

He placed second in the weight throw (16.32m) and ninth in the shot (12.56m) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 1. Cummins finished eighth in the weight throw (16.91m) and 37th in the shot (12.92m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 25. He placed first in the weight throw (17.81m) and fourth in the shot (12.97m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 18. Cummins placed second in both the weight throw (18.07m) and the shot (12.71m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 11. He took second in the weight throw (16.47m) and 11th in the shot (11.93m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 14. Cummins took second place in the weight throw (17.51m), while also finishing 10th in the shot (11.83m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 7.

 

As a freshman in 2012-13, Cummins posted a pair of fourth place finishes in the weight throw with a season-high mark of 15.74m and the shot (11.84m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 2. He placed 12th in the weight throw (14.41m) at the 2013 N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 16. Cummins earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the weight throw (15.65m) and also finished 18th in the shot (11.44m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. He finished fourth in the weight throw (15.20m) and 13th in the shot with a season-high mark of 12.33m at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 2. He placed 28th in the weight throw (13.82m) at the B.U. Terrier Invitational on Jan. 26.

 

Cummins placed 11th in the shot (11.19m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 19. He placed second in the weight throw (13.96m) and third in the shot (12.09m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 12. Cummins placed second in the weight throw (14.49m) and fourth in the shot (11.60m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 5. He placed 22nd in the weight throw (13.62m) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8. Cummins placed sixth in the weight throw (13.65m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1. He was named the Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week twice on the season.

 

Cummins is a radiologic technology major and a 2012 graduate of Lincoln High School.

 

Senior Kevin Redmond (Wakefield, RI) finished 10th in the weight throw (12.73m; season-best) and 11th in the shot (12.32m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 14th in the shot (12.38m; season-best) and 17th in the weight throw (11.77m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Redmond finished 21st in the weight throw (11.52m) and 23rd in the shot (11.78m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. He finished 50th in the weight throw (10.32m) and 51st in the shot (11.96m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. Redmond finished sixth in the shot (11.87m) and seventh in the weight throw (11.70m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fifth in the shot (12.12m) and ninth in the weight throw (11.28m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 16. Redmond finished eighth in the shot (11.68m) and 17th in the weight throw (10.55m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

As a junior in 2014-15, Redmond finished 12th in the shot (12.52m; season-best) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. He placed 11th in the shot (12.24m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. Redmond finished 45th in the shot (11.76m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30-31. He finished fifth in the shot (12.10m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24.

 

Redmond is a justice studies major and a 2012 graduate of South Kingstown High School.

 

Junior Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) finished third in the weight throw (16.61m) and fourth in the shot (14.67m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished seventh in the weight throw (16.76m) while also competing in the shot at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. Cabral earned a pair of All-New England honors, finishing fourth in the shot (14.57m) and fifth in the weight throw (16.23m), at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. He earned a pair of N.E. Alliance honors with a second place finish in the weight throw (16.23m) and a third place finish in the shot (14.76m; season-best) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Cabral finished fifth in the weight throw (16.21m) and eighth in the shot (14.06m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. He finished 12th in the weight throw (16.52m) and 38th in the shot (13.24m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. Cabral finished first in the shot (14.12m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in the shot (13.93m) and second in the weight throw (16.76m; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Cabral finished third in the weight throw (16.48m) and ninth in the shot (14.16m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. He finished second in the weight throw (16.69m) and third in the shot (13.33m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Junior Joel Ikuejamofo (Providence, RI) finished 28th in the 400m (50.72) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. He finished 13th in the 400m (51.37) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. Ikuejamofo earned N.E. Alliance honors by finishing seventh in the 400m (52.62), while also competing as a member of the 11th place 4x400m relay (3:52.57), at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished 18th in the 400m (50.45; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Ikuejamofo finished 82nd in the 400m (50.48), while also competing as a member of the 40th place 4x400m relay (3:26.36), at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. He finished second in the 600m (1:26.57; season-best), while also competing as a member of the first place 4x400m relay (3:31.60), at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24.

 

Junior Seth Larbi (Pawtucket, RI) finished eighth in the weight throw (14.75m; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 37th in the weight throw (14.06m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. Larbi finished fourth in the weight throw (13.70m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished sixth in the weight throw (13.70m) and 12th in the shot (10.12m; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Larbi finished 10th in the weight throw (13.72m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. He finished seventh in the weight throw (13.93m) and 14th in the shot (9.94m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Junior John Vicario (Johnston, RI) competed as a member of the 11th place 4x200m relay (1:42.32) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished 37th in the 60m (8.28) and 74th in the 200m (27.24; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Vicario finished eighth in the 600m (28.51) and 11th in the 60m (8.54) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished 41st in the 60m (8.21) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. Vicario finished 16th in the 200m (28.65) and 17th in the 60m (8.15; season-best), while also competing as a member of the 4x200m relay (1:39.41), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Sophomore Jake Brierly (Lincoln, RI) finished 13th in the weight throw (12.55m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished  14th in the weight throw (13.54m; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Brierly finished 41st in the weight throw (13.46m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. He finished sixth in the weight throw (13.09m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Brierly finished seventh in the weight throw (12.81m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. He finished 12th in the weight throw (13.53m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. Brierly finished eighth in the weight throw (13.25m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Sophomore Jonathan Carney (Bristol, RI) finished 17th in the 5,000m (16:51.74) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished 38th in the 3,000m (9:46.36; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Carney finished first in the 5,000m (17:50.16) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished seventh in the mile (5:06.48; season-best) and 15th in the 1,000m (3:10.36; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Carney finished sixth in the 5,000m (16:16.47; season-best), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 4x800m relay (9:36.27), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Sophomore Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) finished seventh in both the 60m (7.29) and the 200m (22.86) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 29th in the 200m (22.76) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. Charles finished 14th in the 200m (23.18) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. He earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fourth place finish in the 200m (22.95), while also finishing ninth in the 60m (7.34), 28th in the long jump (5.65m) and competing as a member of the 11th place 4x200m relay (1:42.32) and the 11th place 4x400m relay (3:52.57), at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Charles finished eighth in the long jump (6.54m; season-best) and 24th in the 200m (22.60; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. He finished 75th in the 60m (7.41) and 123rd in the 200m (22.97), while also competing as a member of the 40th place 4x400m relay (3:26.36), at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. Charles finished second in the 200m (23.42), third in the long jump (5.75m) and fourth in the 60m (7.30), while also competing as a member of the first place 4x400m relay (3:31.60), at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished second in the 200m (23.56), third in the 55m (6.85) and seventh in the long jump (5.96m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 16. Charles finished 17th in the 200m (23.21) and 20th in the 60m (7.34) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. He finished second in the 200m (23.61), seventh in the 60m (7.38) and ninth in the long jump (5.55m), while also competing as a member of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:39.41), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

 Sophomore Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) finished 15th in the 200m (24.31;season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 28th in the 60m hurdles (9.11) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. Santos earned N.E. Alliance honors by finishing fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.99), while also finishing 18th in the triple jump (11.78m), 30th in the long jump (5.58m) and competing as a member of the 11th place 4x200m relay (1:42.32) and the 11th place 4x400m relay (3:52.57), at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.98), 12th in the triple jump (12.13m) and 27th in the long jump (5.61m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Santos finished 44th in the triple jump (11.61m) and 56th in the 60m hurdles (9.08) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. He finished second in both the triple jump (11.55m) and the 60m hurdles (9.15) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Santos finished second in the 55m hurdles (8.48; season-best), sixth in the long jump (6.02m; season-best), seventh in the triple jump (11.63m) and seventh in the 55m (7.22) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. He finished seventh in the triple jump (12.23m; season-best) and 16th in the 60m hurdles (8.91) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. Santos finished second in the triple jump (11.80m) and fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.03), while also competing as a member of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:39.41), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Sophomore Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) finished fourth in the weight throw (15.88m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 23rd in the weight throw (14.22m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. Spruill finished 16th in the weight throw (14.06m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. He finished 11th in the weight throw (13.66m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Spruill finished seventh in the weight throw (15.68m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. He finished 34th in the weight throw (14.33m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. Spruill finished first in the weight throw (15.94m; season-best) and ninth in the shot (10.87m; season-best) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fourth in the weight throw (14.04m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Spruill finished eighth in the weight throw (15.02m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. He finished sixth in the weight throw (14.30m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Freshman Jeff Garson (Cumberland, RI) finished 26th in the 5,000m (18:34.06) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished 41st in the 3,000m (10:39.58; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Garson finished second in the 5,000m (19:15.20) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished eighth in the 3,000m (11:18.13) and 10th in the 800m (2:36.40) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 16. Garson finished 27th in the 800m (2:30.46; season-best) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. He finished 20th in the 5,000m (18:17.20; season-best), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 4x800m relay (9:36.27), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Freshman Destin Kowrati-Bibemi (Providence, RI) finished fifth in the 400m (52.08) and 16th in the 200m (24.38) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 103rd in the 400m (51.34; season-best), while also competing as a member of the 40th place 4x400m relay (3:26.36), at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. Bibemi finished third in the 600m (1:28.16; season-best) and fourth in the 200m (23.77; season-best), while also competing as a member of the first place 4x400m relay (3:31.60), at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished sixth in both the 200m (24.21) and the 400m (53.92), and eighth in the triple jump (11.45m; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Bibemi finished ninth in the 400m (51.70) and 33rd in the 200m (24.03) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 12. He finished fourth in both the triple jump (11.22m) and the 400m (53.66), while also competing as a member of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:39.41) and fifth place 4x800m relay (9:36.27), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Freshman Newell Roberts (Providence, RI) finished third in the pole vault (4.41m; season-best) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Mar. 4. He finished 21st in the pole vault (3.95m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. Roberts earned N.E. Alliance honors, finishing fourth in the pole vault (4.10m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished sixth in the pole vault (4.20m) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Roberts finished 25th in the pole vault (4.10m) at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. He finished second in the pole vault (3.95m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Roberts finished third in the pole vault (3.95m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. He finished third in the pole vault (4.25m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

Freshman Adam Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) finished 26th in the weight throw (8.66m; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. He finished 11th in the weight throw (8.07m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. Stomberg finished 12th in the weight throw (8.64m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16.
