RIC STAYS UNBEATEN WITH, 8-0,
WIN OVER WENTWORTH

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College stayed unbeaten with a 8-0 win over Wentworth in collegiate women’s tennis action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen (3-0) raced out to the early lead as they swept the three doubles matches for the quick, 3-0, advantage. The team of junior Danya Reilly (Swansea, MA) and senior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) took an impressive 8-3 win over the Leopard (0-4) junior tandem of Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, MA) and Sam Webb (Duxbury, MA) at No. 1 doubles.

 

Sophomore Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and junior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, RI) registered a 9-7 (7-3) victory vs. junior Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, RI) and freshman Olivia DeLuca (Dracut, MA) at No. 2 doubles.

Junior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) and Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) rounded out the doubles winners for RIC as they notched an 8-6 win at the third spot over sophomore Veronica Monteiro (North Andover, MA) and sophomore Ellen Butts (Brookfield, MA).

 

Reilly won in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) at No. 1 singles with a victory over Briggs. Reddy downed DeLuca (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2 singles, while Nastasi bested Jodoin (6-3, 6-0) at No. 3 singles.

 

Braganca downed Webb (6-1, 6-2) at No. 4 singles and Romeo defeated Butts (7-5, 7-5) in the dark at No. 6 singles. Martin and sophomore Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, MA) had their match halted due to darkness at No. 5 singles.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open up Little East Conference action at Salem State on Saturday, Sept. 10 (1 p.m.).
