RIC OPENS LITTLE EAST PLAY
WITH, 9-0, WIN AT SALEM STATE

Salem, Mass.-The Rhode Island College  women’s tennis squad posted a 9-0 victory over Salem State in a Little East Conference contest played at the Central Campus Tennis Courts  on Saturday afternoon.  The match was the season opener for the hosts.

 

For the fourth straight contest the Anchorwomen (4-0, 1-0 LEC) raced out to the early lead as they swept all three doubles matches for the quick 3-0 advantage. The duo of junior Danya Reilly (Swansea, MA) and senior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while the pair of sophomore Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and junior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, RI) registered a near perfect 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Junior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) and freshman Laura Cruso (Westerly, RI) completed the doubles sweep for RIC as they notched an 8-2 win at the third spot.

 

In singles action, Reilly posted her second win of the day with a (6-0, 6-1) victory at the No. 1 spot, while her doubles partner, Reddy, notched a (6-0, 6-1) win at No. 2 singles. 

 

 Nastasi was perfect at No. 3 singles with a (6-0, 6-0) sweep and Braganca took a (6-0, 6-1) victory at the fourth singles spot.  The Anchorwomen cruised to the victory and swept the singles matches as Romeo had a (6-2, 6-2) win at No. 5 singles and freshman Chevell Burgess (Providence, RI) recorded her first collegiate victory with a (6-4, 6-3) win at No. 6 singles.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home against Southern Maine on Saturday, Sept. 17 (1 p.m.).
