WOMEN'S SWIMMING OPENS 2016-17 SEASON AT BRIDGEWATER STATE RELAYS

Bridgewater, Mass.--The Rhode Island College women’s swimming team opened the 2016-17 campaign with a third place (three teams) finish at the fifth Annual Michael Arsenault Memorial Relays, hosted by Bridgewater State at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool on Saturday afternoon. The host Bears took home first place for the event.

 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the RIC team of junior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI), sophomore Madison Lane (Barrington, RI), sophomore Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) and senior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) notched a third place finish (1:56.92).  In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Lane, Payne, Curran and Leazes finished third (2:12.89). The 100-yard freestyle relay had the foursome of freshman Karen Ramirez (Providence, RI), freshman Jianna Hodge (North Providence, RI), freshman Chelsea Luciano (Pawtucket, RI) and freshman Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) record a third place finish (1:12.15).

 

The Anchorwomen 400-yard freestyle relay team of Leazes, Payne, Lane and Curran also recorded a second place finish (4:24.34) to wrap up the event.

 

 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will return to action when it hosts the University of Saint Joseph (CT) in a dual meet at Bryant University’s Chace Athletic Center Pool on Sunday, Oct. 23 (1 p.m.).
