CURRAN LEADS ANCHORWOMEN
AT BLUE JAY PENTATHLON

Hartford, Conn.--The Rhode Island College women’s swimming team competed at the University of Saint Joseph (CT) Pentathlon held at the Bruyette Natatorium on Friday evening. It was an individual meet with no team scoring.

 

Junior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) had three top-10 finishes to lead the way for the Anchorwomen. Curran recorded a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.22), a third place finish in the 100-yard individual medley and a 10th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. She also had the fastest time for RIC in the 100-yard butterfly with a 12th-place finish (1:16.92) and finished the 100-yard freestyle in 13th-place (1:04.35). Curran also swam the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished fourth (2:07.06) and was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in fifth place (2:25.41).

Sophomore Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) had a 14th-place finish (1:26.43) in the 100-yard breaststroke, a 21st-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley (1:22.65), placed 22nd in the 100-yard freestyle (1:11.61) and took home a 27th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:25.64). Payne also swam the opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay that took home fourth place (2:07.06) and the second leg of the fifth place 200-yard medley relay team (2:25.41).

 

Freshman Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) notched a 21st-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:21.97), a 27th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:14.32), a 29th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:29.69) and a 30th-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley. She also swam the third leg of the fourth place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:07.06) and the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in fifth place (2:25.41).

 

Freshman Jianna Hodge (North Providence, RI) tallied a 36th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:46.22) and a 40th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:34.86).  She also swam the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay for the Anchorwomen that finished in fourth place (2:07.06) and swam the anchor leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that had a fifth place finish (2:25.41).

 

Freshman Chelsea Luciano (Pawtucket, RI) had a 32nd-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:02.15), a 33rd-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley (2:00.96), a 37th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:52.95) and a 41st-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle 91:37.99) for the Anchorwomen. 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to UMass Dartmouth for the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 5 (Noon).
