CURRAN AND LEAZES PACE WOMEN'S SWIMMING AT LOUISE GOODRUM INVITATIONAL

Providence, R.I.--The Rhode Island College women’s swimming team competed at the 2016 Louise Goodrum Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth at the Tripp Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. It was an individual meet with no team scoring.

 

Junior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) recorded three top-10 finishes for the Anchorwomen. Curran notched a third place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (33.41), an eighth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (28.13) and finished ninth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.63). She also finished the 50-yard butterfly in 14th place (31.36) and was 12th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:39.79).  Curran swam the third leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished 13th (2:14.00) and was the lead leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 12th (1:59.86).

Senior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) registered a pair of top-10 finishes on the day, placing eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.01) and ninth in the mixed 1,650-yard freestyle (21:13.86). Leazes also notched a 12thplace finish (2:36.95) in the 100-yard backstroke, was 13th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:41.16) and 21st in the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.95). She also swam the anchor leg of the Anchorwomen’s 200-yard medley relay that placed 13th (2:14.00) and the final leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay that finished 12th (1:59.86).

Freshman Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) notched a 19th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:38.99), an 18th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:20.08), a 30th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (31.05) and a 33rd-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:11.11). She also swam the opening leg of the 13th place 200-yard medley relay (2:14.00) and the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 12th place (1:59.86).

 

Sophomore Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) posted an 18th place finish (39.57) in the 50-yard breaststroke, a 32nd place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (31.24) and placed 21st in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:30.05) and took home a 27th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:25.64).  Payne also swam the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay that placed 13th (2:14.00) and the third leg of the 12th-place 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:59.86).

 

Freshman Chelsea Luciano (Pawtucket, RI) recorded a 34th place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke (54.61), a 48th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (38.47), a 53rd place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:37.74) and a 28th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:05.73) for the Anchorwomen.  

 

Freshman Jianna Hodge (North Providence, RI) tallied a 51st place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (40.85) and a 52nd place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:31.50).   

 

 In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 12 (10 a.m.).
