2016 RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY SEASON PREVIEW

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Timothy Rudd’s women’s cross country team kicks off the 2016 season tomorrow morning at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.

“Our three meets in October are always our highlighted events,” Rudd said.  “We go to Westfield State where there will be over 50 other college programs along with members of our conference and then to Western New England Invitational, which is a fast course and will give our women an opportunity run fast times to boost their confidence as we prepare for conference and regional championships.”

Leading the way for the Anchorwomen this season will be senior captain Allison Lomas (Saunderstown, RI), who notched a top-50 finish at the Little East Championships a season ago. Junior Briana Lenihan (Saunderstown, RI) and sophomore Veronica Northup (Hope, RI) will also be counted on to provide experience and depth to the RIC lineup this season.

The Anchorwomen will be looking for several newcomers to make an impact on the fortunes of the squad. Sophomore transfer Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) and incoming freshmen Cassidy Bissitt (Smithfield, RI) and Sara Basler (East Greenwich, RI) will push the returnees and battle for a spot in the top five.

“With the depth of our lineup and strength of our young talent, I’m excited for the future of the program,” said Rudd. “I’m looking forward to battling for the top of the conference and what’s ahead for the team.”
