RIC ROLLS BY WESTERN CONNECTICUT, 9-0

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College women’s tennis team continued to roll through an undefeated 2016 campaign with a 9-0 shutout victory against Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference contest played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

 

RIC (7-0, 3-0 LEC) took all three of doubles matches against WCSU (3-3, 0-2 LEC) before sweeping all six singles contests to post the commanding victory.

 

In doubles action, the Anchorwomen’s No. 1 pair of junior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and senior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) posted an 8-4 victory over WCSU junior Carole Allers (Wilton, CT) and freshman Emma Chapman (Danbury, CT).

At No. 2 doubles, the Anchorwomen duo of sophomore Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and junior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, RI) remained undefeated on the year (6-0) with an 8-1 win against the Colonial’s freshman Pooja Dudhedia (Brookfield, CT) and freshman Sarah Warkoski (Bristol, CT).

 

Junior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) and senior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) rounded out the doubles winners for RIC with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 slot over senior Karen Velez (Danbury, CT) and senior Carine Jacque (New London, CT).

Reilly picked up her second win of the day at No. 1 singles with a (6-0, 6-0) win against Chapman, while Reddy posted a (6-2, 6-3) win against Allers at No. 2 singles.  Nastasi recorded a (6-1, 6-1) win over Jacque at the No. 3 spot with Braganca taking a (6-0, 6-0) victory against Warkoski at the No. 4 spot.

 

Martin tallied a win (6-2, 6-1) against Velez at the fifth singles spot, while Romeo completed the singles sweep for the Anchorwomen with a (6-2, 6-4) win over Dudhedia at No. 6.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action with a match at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Sept. 27 (3:30 p.m.).
