NO. 11 UMASS BOSTON DOWNS RIC, 2-0, IN
LITTLE EAST MEN'S SOCCER ACTION

Boston, Mass.-The Rhode Island College men’s soccer team dropped a hard fought 2-0 decision against No. 11 UMass Boston in a Little East Conference contest  on Saturday night.

 

Senior defender Marcelo Cunha (Goiania, Brazil) gave host UMass Boston (8-0, 2-0 LEC) the lead in the 17th minute when he put in a free kick from 25 yards out for the 1-0 advantage.  The Beacons took the one goal lead heading into halftime after outshooting RIC (5-3, 1-1 LEC) by a 10-7 margin over the first 45 minutes.

UMB freshman forward Ocane Williamson (Spanish Town, Jamaica) added an insurance goal with less than four minutes to play to propel the Beacons to the 2-0 victory.  Prior to the contest, the game was dubbed the Little East Conference’s “Game of the Season,"

 

In net, freshman Omar Castro-Dreher (Woonsocket, RI) made five stops to notch the shutout for UMass Boston, while senior Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) notched 12 saves in the setback for the Anchormen.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Roger Williams on Wednesday, Sept. 28 (4 p.m.).
