ANCHORMEN FINISH SECOND AT GNAC
MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gorham, Maine--The Rhode Island College men’s golf team finished in second place with a two-round total of 610 (305, 305) at the 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, hosted by Southern Maine at the Gorham Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15-16.

 

St. Joseph’s of Maine took home the team title and the conference’s automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Div. III National Championships with a score of 607 (301, 306). Host Southern Maine finished in a tie for second place with RIC after shooting a 610 (300, 310). The Anchormen won the tie-breaker to take second place for the tournament.

RIC was led by Junior Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) who finished tied for sixth overall with a score of 151 (77, 74). Junior Austin Cilley (Westerly, RI) tied for eighth place with a 152 (76, 76), while senior John Roderick (Hope, RI) tied for 10th with a 153 (76, 77). Senior Steve Letterle (Cranston, RI) notched a tie for 20th with a 158 (76, 82), while sophomore Tom Sheran (Marston Mills, MA) rounded out the Anchormen contingent, finishing in a tie for 34th place with a 165 (87, 78).

 

Team Scores: St. Joseph’s of Maine 607 (301, 306), Rhode Island College 610 (305, 305), Southern Maine 610 (300, 310), Worcester State 622 (316, 306), Johnson & Wales 629 (323, 306), UMass Dartmouth 633 (322, 311), Emmanuel 643 (324, 319), Suffolk 646 (323, 323), Albertus Magnus 706 (356, 350).

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will tee off at the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships at the Captains Country Club in Brewster, Mass. on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 23-24.
