LAMBRESE AND WARD HELP ANCHORWOMEN PICK UP FIRST LITTLE EAST WIN OF THE SEASON

Dartmouth, Mass.--The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team picked up their first Little East Conference victory of the season on Tuesday evening, notching a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) victory on the road against UMass Dartmouth at the Tripp Athletic Center.

 

Junior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) paced RIC (10-13, 1-6 LEC) with 13 kills and five digs, while sophomore outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) narrowly missed a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs in the victory. Junior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) recorded 37 assists and eight digs, while junior middle blocker Sierra Smith (Longmont, CO) tallied six kills and a match-best three blocks for the Anchorwomen. RIC had an impressive .302 hitting percentage (40 kills, 11 errors, 96 attacks) in the win.

UMass Dartmouth (9-17, 0-6 LEC) was led by freshman outside hitter Anita Sengara (Vancouver, British Columbia) with eight kills and 10 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Jillian Sykora (Waterford, CT) notched 14 assists and two service aces in the setback. Senior middle hitter Kayla Kirby (Westport, MA) added four kills and three blocks for the Corsairs. 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at a tri-match hosted by Worcester State on Saturday, Oct. 29 (1 p.m.).
