2016 Rhode Island College Womenís Volleyball
Season Summary

(12-13 Overall; 1-6 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Leo Bushís (42-39, .519) team finished the 2016 season with an 12-13 record overall and a 1-6 (seventh place) mark in the Little East Conference.

 

 

 

Senior libero Megan Armburg (Swansea, MA) closed out her career having played in 252 sets in 73 matches. She totaled 10 kills, 53 assists, 90 service aces and 848 digs in three seasons.

 

As a senior in 2016, Armburg played in 78 sets in 23 matches. She registered 17 assists (.17/set), 24 services aces (.31/set) and a team-high 309 digs (3.96/set). Armburg compiled 10 or more digs in 13 matches, highlighted by a season-best 27 in a 3-1 loss to Endicott on Sept. 3.

 

As a junior in 2015, Armburg played in 106 sets in 29 matches. She recorded four kills (.04/set), 27 assists (.25/set), 30 service aces (.28/set) and ranked second on the team with 322 digs (3.04/set).

 

As a sophomore in 2014, she played in 68 sets in 21 matches. She recorded four kills (.06/set), nine assists (.13/set), a team-high 36 aces (.53/set) and 217 digs (3.19/set).

 

Prior to coming to RIC, Armburg attended South Florida and UMass Dartmouth.

 

She is an operations management major and a 202 graduate of Joseph Case High School.

 

Senior defensive specialist Nicole Thibodeau (Loxahatchee, FL) closed out her career having played in 245 sets in 87 matches. She totaled 10 kills, 18 assists, 34 service aces and 312 digs in four seasons.

 

As a senior in 2016, she played 77 sets in 24 matches. Thibodeau totaled nine assists (.12/set) and 116 digs (1.51/set).

 

As a junior in 2015, Thibodeau played in 68 sets in 21 matches. She tallied one kill (.01/set), three assists (.04/set), 44 digs (.65/set) and 20 service aces (.29/set).

 

As a sophomore in 2014, she played in 42 sets in 22 matches. She recorded one assist (.02/set), seven service aces (.17/set) and 41 digs (.98/set).

 

As a freshman in 2013, Thibodeau played in 58 sets in 20 matches. She totaled five kills (0.09/set), five assists (0.09/set), three service aces (0.05) and 111 digs (1.91/set). Thibodeau ranked third on the squad in digs per set ranked fourth on the team in total digs for the year. She tallied double-digit digs twice for the season and posted a season-high of 12 digs against Western Connecticut on Oct. 29, while also finishing with a season-high of two kills in that same match.

 

She is a justice studies and sociology major and a 2013 graduate of Seminole Ridge High School.

 

Junior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) played in 86 sets in 25 matches. She registered a .211 hitting percentage (258-92-785) to go along with 258 kills (3.0/set), five assists (.06/set), 18 service aces (.21/set), 137 digs (1.59/set) and 16 blocks (.19/set). She led the team in hitting and was second in kills. Lambrese reached double digits in kills 13 times, including a season-best 20 on two occasions. She was named the Little East Offensive Player of the Week once on the season.

 

Junior middle blocker Sierra Smith (Longmont, CO) played in 80 sets in 23 matches. She registered a .202 hitting percentage (137-60-382) to go along with 137 kills (1.71/set), nine assists (0.11/set), 17 digs (.21/set) and 34 blocks (.43/set). Smith was second on the team in blocks and third in kills. She posted a season-high 13 kills in a 3-2 win over Framingham State on Oct. 29.

 

Junior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) played in 88 sets in 25 matches. She totaled 23 kills (.26/set), 676 assists (7.68/set), 30 service aces (.34/set) and 221 digs (2.51/set). White led the team in assists, was second in aces and third in digs. She notched her 2,000th career assist in a 3-0 win over Worcester State on Oct. 13. White registered double digits in assists in 23 matches, highlighted by a season-high 52 in a 3-1 win over Mount Holyoke on Oct. 1.

 

Sophomore defensive specialist Marisa Brynes (Warwick, RI) played in 62 sets in 21 matches. She totaled 110 digs (1.77/game) on the season.

 

Sophomore middle blocker Hannah Derefaka (West Warwick, RI) played in 78 sets in 23 matches. She totaled a .141 hitting percentage (60-32-199) to go along with 60 kills (.77/set), 21 digs (.27/set) and 37 blocks (.47/set). Derefaka led the squad in blocks and was fifth in kills. She posted a season-high eight kills in a 3-1 win over WPI on Oct. 15.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) played in 84 sets in 24 matches. She registered a .135 hitting percentage (283-161-902) to go along with 283 kills (3.37/set), 10 assists (.12/set), 31 service aces (.37/set), 250 digs (2.98/set) and 30 blocks (.36/set). Ward led the team in kills, was tied for the lead in aces, was second in digs and third in blocks. She reached double digits in kills in 17 matches, highlighted by a season-high 21 in a 3-1 victory over Mount Holyoke on Oct. 1.

 

Freshman middle blocker Jessica Brielmaier (West Greenwich, RI) played in 17 sets in 10 matches. She registered 13 kills (.76/set) and three blocks (.18/set). Brielmaier posted a season-high six kills in a 3-0 win over Becker on Sept. 17.

 

Freshman setter Jacqueline Jutras (Foster, RI) played in 82 sets in 23 matches. She registered a .088 hitting percentage (91-62-330) to go along with 91 kills (1.11/set), 86 assists (1.05/set), 31 service aces (.38/set), 135 digs (1.65/set) and 21 blocks (.26/set). Jutras was tied for the team lead in aces, was second in assists and fifth in digs. Jutras knocked down a season-high 11 kills in a 3-1 win over Mount Holyoke on Oct. 1. She handed out a season-best 11 assists in a 3-0 win over Becker on Sept. 17. Jutras was named the Little East Rookie of the Week once on the season.

 

Freshman middle blocker Kaitlyn Kopecky (Swansea, MA) played in 54 sets in 18 matches. She totaled 12 service aces (.22/set) and 24 digs (.44/set).

 

Freshman middle blocker Haley Medeiros (Coventry, RI) played in 17 sets in nine matches. She registered a .136 hitting percentage (15-9-44) to go along with 15 kills (.88/set).

 

Freshman right side hitter Sadie Swap (Ivoryton, CT) played in 14 sets in seven matches. She totaled 13 kills (.93/set), five assists (.36/set) and three digs (.21/set).
