MEN'S TENNIS TEAM OPENS SEASON
WITH, 9-0, LOSS TO BISON

Pomfret, Conn.--The Rhode Island College menís tennis team opened the 2017 season with a 9-0 setback against Nichols in a non-conference contest played at The Pomfret School on Saturday afternoon.

 

Nichols (4-2) took all three doubles matches against RIC (0-1) and finished the sweep with a perfect 6-0 mark in singles play.

 

Nichols freshman Supakrit Boonsoong (Chestnut Hill, MA) and sophomore Kirill Ivanov (Moscow, Russia) posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles against the RIC team of sophomores Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) and Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT).

 

Ivanov then posted a (6-0, 6-0) win over RIC junior Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) at No. 3 singles, while Boonsoong recorded a (6-1, 6-0) victory against RIC senior captain Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) at the No. 4 singles spot.

 

RIC freshman William Tavares (Kingston, RI) dropped a (6-1, 6-0) decision at No. 1 singles and teamed with Tiberi for an 8-1 setback at the No. 1 doubles spot. Sophomore Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) fell to freshman Peter Coletti (Beverly, MA) by a score of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and teamed with Duquette for an 8-3 setback at third doubles for the Anchormen.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will travel to Clark for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 15 (3:30 p.m.).
