Waterville, Maine-The Rhode Island College menís tennis squad dropped an 8-1 decision at Thomas on Sunday afternoon.


Thomas (2-4) took the early 3-0 lead after a sweep of the doubles matches. The Terriers No. 1 doubles team of junior Zachary Disch (Waterville, ME) and freshman Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, ME) posted an 8-1 win over RICís (0-3) team of freshman William Tavares (Kingston, RI) and junior Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI).


Thomasí No. 2 team of freshman Jared Waterhouse (Dayton, ME) and freshman Kaleb Payson (Lamoine, ME) secured an 8-6 win over the RIC squad of sophomore Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) and senior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI).

The Terriers finished the sweep of the doubles matches when the No. 3 team of sophomore Ross Munn (Brunswick, ME) and freshman Mark Amato (Manchester, CT) took an 8-3 win over RIC sophomores Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) and Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT).


RIC took its first match of the day at No. 5 singles with a (6-4, 6-3) win by Gambardella over Payson. That would be the only point for the Anchormen as Thomas took the other five singles matches en route to the 8-1 victory. Chasse had a (6-2, 6-0) win over Tavares at the No. 1 spot, while Munn had a (6-3, 6-1) win over Scott at No. 2 singles. Disch, Waterhouse and Amato also picked up singles victories for the Terriers.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Suffolk on Tuesday, March 28 (3:30 p.m.).
