Providence, R.I.--Junior pitcher Daniel Greaves (Warwick, RI) notched the win, throwing six innings while allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts, as the Rhode Island College baseball team posted a 10-2 victory against Becker at Pontarelli Field on Wednesday afternoon.


RIC (10-5) was led by junior center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, RI), who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI, two walks and three stolen bases. Junior right fielder Shaun Vigeant (Coventry, RI) went 2-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI, while freshman short stop Romy Morel (Providence, RI) also had two knocks.


Becker (9-6) was led by sophomore first baseman Tanyon Ventres (Holden, MA), who went 1-for-2 with an RBI. The Hawks were held to just three hits in the contest.


The visiting Hawks took an early 1-0 lead after an RBI groundout from junior shortstop Christopher Testa (Providence, RI) in the bottom of the first. RIC responded in the top of the second and tied the game, 1-1, when junior first baseman Frank Pettinato (Cranston, RI), who had led off the inning with a triple, scored on a Becker error. The Anchormen took a 2-1 advantage when sophomore third baseman Mike Webb (Pawtucket, RI) scored on an RBI single from freshman second baseman Nate Vigeant (Coventry, RI).

RIC added two more in the top of the third and used back-to-back triples from senior designated hitter Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) and Shaun Vigeant to make the score 3-1. Shaun Vigeant later scored on a Becker error to give the Anchormen the 4-1 lead.


RIC tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and added four more in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run home run from Douglas to cruise to the win.


Sophomore pitcher Daniel Diaz (Teaneck, NJ) suffered the loss for Becker, allowing four runs, two of them earned, on four hits with five strikeouts in four innings of work.


In upcoming action, RIC will host Keene State in a Little East Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 (Noon).
