MENíS OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD OPENS SEASON WITH 12TH PLACE FINISH AT YELLOW JACKET INVITATIONAL

Springfield, Mass.--The Rhode Island College menís outdoor track & field team opened the season at the American International College Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday. The Anchormen placed 12th (20 teams) with a team score of 22.0. Southern Connecticut won the meet with a score of 145.0.

 

Junior Victor Santos (Narragansett, RI) registered a fifth place finish in the 110m hurdles (16.20), while junior Jonathan Carney (Bristol, RI) posted a 10th place finish in the 10,000m (35:47.07).

RIC junior Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) recorded a seventh place finish in the 200m (22.66) and was 24th in the 100m (11.62). Freshman Jahnold Bruce (Newport, RI) was 19th in the 100m (11.58) and 27th in the 200m (23.65).

 

Sophomore Destin Bibemi (Providence, RI) was 15th in the 500m (52.54). He also placed second as a member of the 4x400m relay (3:24.87).

 

Freshman Jephte Wagnac (Providence, RI) placed third in the 400m hurdles (56.13) and finished sixth in the triple jump (12.98m).

 

RIC senior Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) finished eighth in the discus throw (38.92m) and was 10th in the shot (12.53m). Junior Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) notched a sixth place finish in the hammer (48.76m) and was 13th in the discus (36.57m).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2017 Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday, April 15 (10 a.m.).
