WOMENíS OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD OPENS SEASON
WITH EIGHTH PLACE FINISH AT
YELLOW JACKET INVITATIONAL

Springfield, Mass.--The Rhode Island College womenís indoor track & field team opened the season at the American International College Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday. The Anchorwomen placed eighth (18 teams) with a team score of 28.0. Stonehill won the meet with a score of 167.83.

 

Sophomore Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) finished first in the triple jump (10.97m), third in the long jump (4.94m) and seventh in the 100m hurdles (16.87).

Sophomore Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) notched a 16th place finish in the 100m (13.02) and was 24th in the 200m (27.16). Sophomore Nicole Grammas (Cranston, RI) recorded an eighth place finish in the 400m (1:00.95) and was 22nd in the 200m (27.11).

 

Freshman Chevell Burgess (Providence, RI) notched a sixth place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:00.07), while sophomore Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) finished 21st in the 1,000m (3:13.72).

 

Sophomore Laura Paiva (Coventry, RI) registered a ninth place finish in the 10,000m (44:59.00).

 

Junior Destinee Barrette (Warwick, RI) recorded a fourth place finish in the hammer (49.12m), took 18th place in the discus (28.20m) and was 19th in the shot (10.03m).

 

RIC freshman Jamie Dobson (Bradford, RI) finished a 17th place in the javelin (31.42m) and was also 17th in the hammer (36.56m). Freshman Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence, RI) finished 12th in the hammer (37.23m) and 24th in the shot (9.68m).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2017 Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday, April 15 (10 a.m.).
