Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College menís tennis team posted a 6-3 victory against the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference match played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.


RIC (3-5) had the 2-1 lead after doubles action. RIC freshman William Tavares (Kingston, RI) and junior Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) posted an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles against the MCLA (1-3) pairing of sophomore Aaron Goldsmith (Mattapan, MA) and senior Robert Wabshinak (Brewster, MA).

The Anchormenís No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) and sophomore Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) posted an 8-1 victory against MCLA sophomore Robert Gair (Stoughton, MA) and junior Jared Freeman (Rotterdam, NY) for the second doubles point.


The lone point in doubles action for MCLA came at the No. 2 spot where freshman Andrew Nygard (Wilton, NY) and senior Jeffrey Mason (Chicopee, MA) notched an 8-5 win over RIC senior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and sophomore Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) to make the score 2-1 heading into singles play.


In singles action, the visiting Trailblazers captured No. 1 singles with a (6-2, 6-1) win by Goldsith over Tavares. MCLA picked up a point at No. 2 singles where Wabshinak took a (7-5, 7-5) win over Scott. RIC would take the remaining four singles matches to take the 6-3 victory for the contest.


Tiberi posted a (6-3. 4-6, 10-0) win against Nygard at No. 3 singles, while Gambardella recording a (6-2. 6-0) over Mason at No. 4 singles. Esposito registered a (6-0, 6-2) win at fifth singles against Gair, while freshman Jonathon Glendinning (Exeter, RI) closed out the win for RIC with a (6-2, 6-1) victory over Freeman at No. 6.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Thursday, April 13 (3:30 p.m.).
