Providence, R.I.--The Rhode Island College menís tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision vs. Johnson & Wales in a non-conference contest played at the RIC Courts on Thursday afternoon.


Johnson & Wales (5-2) took all three doubles matches against RIC (3-6) and finished the sweep with a perfect 6-0 mark in singles play.


RIC freshman William Tavares (Kingston, RI) dropped a (6-0, 6-0) decision at No. 1 singles against JWU senior Andre Barbero (Brielle, NJ). Tavares also teamed with RIC junior Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) for an 8-1 setback at the No. 1 doubles spot against the JWU team of Barbero and senior Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, NY). RIC sophomore Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) fell to Auffret (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 2 singles spot.


The Anchormenís No. 2 doubles team of Scott and senior captain Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) fell to JWU junior Ryan Schiele (Lusby, MD) and junior Taylor Farmer (Carmel, IN) by a score of 8-0. Duquette dropped a (6-2, 6-0) decision against JWU sophomore Taylor Dupee (Middletown, NY) at the No. 5 singles spot.


RICís third doubles team of sophomores Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) and Alan Esposito (Clinton, RI) lost 8-2 against the JWU pairing of Dupee and junior Jack Hopkins (Hamilton, MA). Gambardella suffered a (6-2, 7-5) setback against Farmer at No. 4, with Esposito falling to Hopkins (6-4, 6-4) at No. 6 singles. 


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Becker Saturday, April 15 (1 p.m.).
