Providence, R.I.Junior center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, RI) went 3-for-7 with two runs scored, a triple and an RBI as the Rhode Island College dropped a twinbill at Little East Conference rival Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon.


The Huskies (17-7, 6-0 LEC) won game one, 13-6, and took the nightcap, 12-4.


After falling behind, 1-0, in the opener, RIC (12-12, 1-5 LEC) stormed back with a four-run third inning, paced by two-run singles by sophomore third baseman Mike Webb (Pawtucket, RI) and freshman second baseman Nate Vigeant (Coventry, RI).


After the hosts pulled within a run by plating a pair in the bottom of the third, RIC went up, 6-3, with a Douglas RBI triple in the fourth and a run-scoring double by senior catcher Nate Cahoone (Westerly, RI) an inning later.

USM scored once each in the fifth and sixth, respectively, and went ahead, 7-6, with a two-run seventh. Sophomore center fielder Devin Warren (Smithfield, ME) ripped an RBI double and classmate pinch hitter Kaleb Bridgham (Minot, ME) notched a sacrifice fly.


The Huskies put the game out of reach with a six-run eighth inning. Sophomore second baseman Jake Dexter (Oakland, ME) smacked a two-run homer in the frame.


RIC freshman reliever Riley Miller (Newport, RI) took the loss (1-1), while USM senior reliever Tom Fortier (Falmouth, ME) earned the win (2-0). Freshman left fielder Dylan Hapworth (Winslow, ME) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and four RBI to pace the USM offense. Douglas went 3-for-4 with a run scored, a triple and an RBI.


In the nightcap, RIC fell behind, 4-0, as USM scored two runs each in the first and second innings. A three-run third brought RIC within a run, 4-3, as senior left fielder Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) smacked a three-run homer.


A Webb RBI groundout made the score, 5-4, but USM scored once each in the fifth and sixth to increase its advantage to 7-4. Dexter brought in two with a single in the seventh and Hapworth homered in the eighth to seal the win.


Webb took the loss (1-1), while freshman reliever Gage Feeney (Cutler, ME) picked up the win (2-0). Hapworth went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, four RBI and a homer. RIC freshman shortstop Rommy Morel (Providence, RI) went 2-for-4.


Hapworth went 6-for-8 with six runs scored, a double, three bombs and eight RBI to pace the Huskies on the day.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Suffolk on Monday, April 17 (4 p.m.).
